In past couple days I've noticed it's been making noises it's a 160Gig Maxtor it sounds like it's chugging along at times. I defragmented both particians and still getting the sounds. Even when flipping through webpages it makes noises. Everything seems okay. Anyway to fix this or whats hppening?

Chances are it's just a noisy unit. People tend to forget they're mechanical devices that move around. I actually prefer the noise because I can keep tabs on what the system is doing in the background without looking at the machine itself. The 7200rpm IBM units in my file server are silent and it freaks me out compared to the 15k and 10k rpm units in my workstations. Anyway, hitting the disk is very normal, especially in windows. One or two patterns every few seconds is perfectly normal, even for a seemingly idle machine.

One of my older drives lost a bearing one day. It screams like a little girl but works fine. Manufacturer diagnostic utilities are your friend if you're worried about it.
