Looking to buy a laptop for a friend specifically to play Killing Floor 2 while she is on a trip away from home. She intends to give the laptop to her son's friend when the trip is done, so the preferred budget is $300 or less. We will entertain offers for a good price.

The recommended specs for the game from the Steam page:

  • Processor: Core 2 Quad Q9550 2.83GHz or Phenom II X4 955
  • Memory: 4 GB RAM
  • Graphics: GeForce GTX 560 or Radeon HD 6950

Wow, and all I thought lga775 processors were good for is viewing pdfs like I do. Free bump!

So just want to offer some advise. Those recommended specs are wrong. I heavily suggest a minimum of 8GB of ram and at LEAST a 7th gen GeForce, like a 750m or better.

Yeah, I figured those two already--but the cpu still shocks me.

recommended specs are fine... they just aren't relevant to laptops.... they say 560 not 560m.... laptop gpus haven't actually used the desktop counterpart chip till nvidias 10xx pascal.

IE prior to 10xx series laptop GPU's were garbage and 40% or more slower than their desktop counterpart.

Example...In terms of pure performance....

Laptop 750m = desktop gt 710-720 (a very very entry level gpu)
The laptop 960m = desktop 750 ti and a laptop 970m approximates to a 760 (seriously)
The AMD R9 M290x is about even with a desktop R7 270.

Actually funny enough, a gtx 1050 (non ti) laptop is even in performance with a 970m laptop. Not making that up. And a 1050 ti laptop trounces the 970m handedly.

Unfortunately the only laptop within 300 you can find is going to be 4th gen i7-4700hq with 860m/960m (both about a 750 ti in desktop performance) and it will run killing floor on 1366x768 decently well, but will struggle at 1080p
