Looking for Sony (Trinitron), Samsung (SyncMaster), Viewsonic (model numbers starting with "P"), NEC (FE991SB), or Mitsubishi (Diamond). Must be in perfect working order.

Hey have you tried Goodwill? Here in TX we have these "Goodwill Works" places that only stock electronic and computer stuff.

People have basically been giving away CRT monitors for 15 years, even good ones.

The thrift stores in my area never stock any good electronics.

Well if I happen to see one I'll keep you in mind.... I was at a thrift shop maybe 6 months ago that had some nicer CRT monitors. Can't remember the name, was on a road trip. But the shipping is going to be a killer for sure.

well... the best time to go is the middle of the week after they've recovered from the busy weekends, but it still takes luck. Stuff like CRTs might get recycled rather than being put out though, since there's not much interest and they take up a lot of space.

It's not very convenient for me to go shopping during the week, and the higher-end models I'm looking for are far, far more likely to be found online anyway. I've budgeted appropriately for the inevitably high shipping costs.

OK... I have to ask "why" now. Why old CRT monitors? Must be some specific purpose?

Because they're awesome. Great contrast, colour range, high brightness, no native resolution, zero input lag. Only drawbacks are the size, weight, and edge geometry. There's a reason the FW900 thread is 383 pages.

One more try at this...I'm getting frustrated with this search. I've posted this on five different forums, zip. Nothing on eBay, Kijiji, or craigslist either. Plenty of good 17 and 21 inchers, but the few 19 inchers that come up are mostly low-end models with a few like-new enthusiast models that cost a fortune mixed in.

If you happen to find one in your area, I will happily reimburse you for the effort to go and pick it up.

Awww... I still have a Fw900 sitting in the basement.. Too bad your pretty far north across the border.

It's too big anyways. There's multiple reasons I'm specifically looking for 19 inch models, and they mostly have to do with size and weight.

If that FW900 works perfectly, put it on eBay (or in the FW900 thread, or the CRT Gaming subreddit). You ought to make a bundle. Or hang onto it - it's some serious tech.

To the OP I feel you man, my favorite monitor in all the world was a 24" trinitron business edition monitor. The thing must have weighed 100 lb. and took my whole desk. But man that thing was crisp and clear. I could run almost any resolution at 120HZ on that bad boy. There was nothing like counter-strike at a smooth and clear 800x600 resolution. Man I hate playing that game at 1080p!
