I should've known the 1080 Ti is going to cost this high like 3 or 4 months ago and bought a bunch of them back then. I could make a nice profit off them now. Well...I guess it'll be awhile before the price will come down again. Same case for the AMD Radeon awhile back. So unpredictable....tsk, tsk, tsk...

these prices are straight up insane... not sure what to make of it... But it's a shitty thing and time for someone who legit wants to build a gaming rig. Some people are able to score a 1080ti for 899 by hawking the sites... But that is still way high... Major sigh here.... It's basically fucked right now. Wait..

I'd smirk and say something clever, but the bubble that is crypto, is already starting to burst....

Enjoy your cards while you can, sir.

    Mhm.

If you guys don't lose your shorts by May, apparently I'm bad at my job.

I'm fairly confident in the projections I've been perusing....

Did you project I was going to cash out some BTC when it hit $19,500? Because that happened and I’m well ahead of the game now, even with a tiny mining operation.

Mining is an interesting hobby and kept me busy. If the crypto market crashes tomorrow I’ll be fine. I still had fun and then I just need to sell off a few GTX 1070s.

Then everyone can buy super cheap GPUs, woohoo.

I think the cards will be fine. The power limit is cranked way down and they are in a case with a lot of airflow. The whole case is in a finished and unheated part of my basement (13C ambient temp). I’d be more worried about people overclocking their gaming GPUs in cramped and hot gaming cases.

if that is the case than i would be willing to give you a VERY good deal on hardly used GPU's. Very little gaming hours on each of GPU.

to others posting here.. You missing his point... he is predicting the crash of all coins due to XYZ (maybe taxes?) reason not what your doing day to day. L@@Ks like May was referenced here.. may risk the temp ban by waking this thread up as a reference POV. see ya may 31st.

I bought a EVGA 1080 Ti SC Black last week for $769. If you don't mind buying over seas you could buy 10 or more 1080 Ti's at reasonable prices. A bunch of you could get together and order them and split them up vice whin and complain.

    https://www.alibaba.com/product-det...?spm=a2700.7724838.2017115.119.6d07ce1d5aGXb7

Just an example and not necessarily would buy from them. Where do folks think the big time miners are getting cards from? It is not from BestBuy, Newegg or Amazon. Right from the factory door or close to it in many cases. If the US actually made the cards vice just the chips you probably would not see this.

GPU mining is about to end soon... I am watching to difficulty increasing by the literal hour. My cards are hashing less and less and less and less .... I have multi 1080tis running and they are becoming more and more ineffective. Trust me .. this rush is about to end soon.

As long as you didn't OC the living sheet out of the VRAM, I'd consider your cards a zero-risk on the second-hand market.

Sadly, not everyone has done their homework like you....

Unfortunately, once the "mass dump" happens, ebay will be flooded with cards prone to corruption and artifacting....

Buy a card that has a good non-original owner warranty. EVGA comes to mind with their 3 year warranty from the date of manufacture via their transferable warranty program.

Where did you buy yours? Micro Center supposedly have them for the regular price if you would assure them that you will only use it for gaming.

Not quite. you have to purchase other items like you're building a pc for them to sell at MSRP. If you went in and told them it's for gaming and you only need a card, they won't sell it to you at MSRP.

Sorry about this dumb question but I've been out of the loop on some of this:

The 1080ti has been out for a while. What's changed that all of a sudden I'm seeing rushes, shortages, and the rest of it? Just a price increase or something else?

1080ti is very good at mining, VR, and gaming. Take your pick. Most gamers go for the 1060 or RX 580, while miners will go for ANYTHING with ROI. the 1070s were the hot ticket for awhile then they started grabbing 1060s and 1080ti. the vanilla 1080 was last because its high latency memory wasnt so great for mining and it was way more expensive then a 1060/1070.

People are so desperate i see miners buying 1050ti and rx 560s now. I bought two RX 560s for my kids, $109 each -- but when they are not gaming they mine cryptonight at 325h/sec. the 2gb models are kinda sucky, but i still want ROI.

2-3 weeks ago, a 1080TI would make $12-14 a day. Pay itself off in 2 months. Someone that can buy up 8 of these with 0% interest for 6-12 months its a no brainer decision. Right now my 1080ti is making $5 a day and for $900 a pop... i only want one more, because i think getting a volta will be way to hard and to far out.

My 980ti crapped out on me which i sent in for RMA but who knows when i'll get it back or get it fixed at all.

I don't have a problem dropping a grand for a 1080ti but i hate paying way over MSRP feels like i'm being cheated. Goddamn miners. If There were solid volta rumors i might have the patience to wait but the only card i have left is an old 5770 which is comically slow to me now, maybe i should keep some of my old cards more often. I feel like this 5770 isn't that much faster than the intel 530 graphics inside my cpu.

Bubbles hindsight makes people wish they made fast cash

Memory shortage has been well publicized by both AMD and NVIDIA since October, and the massive spike in crypto from value October to January should have been red flags to anyone looking to buy a gpu for gaming, there have literally been warnings for months that gpu's were going to continue their shortages leading to inflated prices due to demand. If AMD could sell a card with the performance around a 1070 or 1080 for $700 or more, why wouldn't Nvidias prices follow suit?
