WoW: Cataclsym, anyone else bored and not feeling it ?

Cataclysm has been interesting, but after taking a six month break, it's hard to get back into the groove of things. I look forward to TERA at this point. I guess we keep coming back to WoW because it's "comfortable". And yes, I was in the beta for Rift.

Ah well, its just holding a place until The Old Republic gets here...

I am very excited about The Old Republic. I really hope that it is, truly, a WoW killer. Or at least contender. Nothing, and I do really mean nothing, has come out since WoW that can hold a candle to that game. Most of the MMOs so far claim to be the infamous "WoW killers" but focus too much on trying to one-up Blizzard's title, instead of putting some freaking soul into their games. Give it some personality for God's sake.

Anyway, yeah, I really hope Old Republic is actually good and interesting and has some kind of soul/personality.

I have played/quit wow about 5-6 times. I always end up going hard on raiding and getting burnt out... quiting. I was really excited for cata and the first week was awesome. Now I cant bother to stay logged in more than an hour. Seems like the same old crap in a new skin.

That's because once you hit level cap, that's basically the only thing to do anymore. Want to PvP? Better pray there aren't people with rated gear, want to do rated pvp? It's just like raiding.

I stopped raiding at the end of January as I just got tired of the same BS and them ramping up the difficulty pissed me off.

Yup I pretty much have not logged in for more then 30 minutes in almost a month.

you are right. i am of same opinion. We have 4.1 to look forward too as well, which I am guessing Blizzard will be releasing right around time for RiFT folks to be resubbing.

I gave Rift a fair shake and it was an awesome experience up until Level 50. At 50, the glaring problem is that there is a distinct lack of content to keep you busy. Rift's current endgame consists of running "heroic" mode dungeons (ie old dungeons with harder bosses) and 1 raid instance. There are also raid rifts but it's extremely disappointing given how much fun I was having leveling up. The PvP side of things is worse. At 50, you can gain 5 levels of Prestige and it's just a mindless zerg to fill up a XP bar 5 times.

There are also massive amounts of daily quests you *HAVE* to run for the odd enchants for gear but the money rewards from these quests is currently terrible.

The leveling up in Rift was the most fun I've had in a long time...the current endgame leaves alot to be desired.

You're doing it wrong.

I've played the game since Oct 2010 and am already bored, sure I don't raid and the only thing I do with my guild is dungeons, I am amazed how people have been playing this since vanilla, sure things took longer back then but still...

Since December I've leveled 2 chars to 85, on 1 I got alchemy and herb maxed out, fishing maxed, archeology maxed (found a few epics), cooking maxed, first aid maxed, got exalted with all the cata factions, done all dungeons on normal and heroic, and basically everything else that doesn't involve raiding...

On the 2nd character which is at 6 days at 85, I've maxed skinning, maxed leatherworking, have all the patterns from Twilight Highlands, don't care about secondary professions, still working on getting exalted, not bothering with dungeons at the moment...

I'm seeing a pattern which makes me wonder how anyone has played this game since vanilla

The steady flow of content is what keeps people playing. Raids alone can take weeks or months to complete, and the vast majority will probably never fully complete them maybe until they're outdated.

You're doing it wrong.

I'd love to know how "I'm doing it wrong"? I played Rift through its beta and up through Head Start and release. My character was maxxed within the week. To be clear, I was 50 with all of my 3 professions maxxed at 300. I was running Tier 1/2 dungeons daily, killed multiple raid rifts, and bosses in the raid with the guild I was running around with on reclaimer (Maximation). I'm speaking from first hand endgame experience here. There is a distinct lack of content once you hit 50.

1) Tier 1+2 dungeons are simply rehashed "heroic" modes. There are no new dungeons once you hit level 50.

2) 1 Raid (on a 7 day lockout) w/ 5 bosses - Greenscale's Blight

3) Raid rifts are available but each rift "faction" offers only a couple of predetermined rifts meaning you do the same scripted ones over and over. In addition you must farm a currency to buy these "rift events" off a vendor.

4) PvP "content" is an absolute joke. Endgame PvP is seriously "grind out an XP bar 5 times". Not to mention PvP balance is AWFUL atm with Warriors killing things within seconds of being stunned.
There is no endgame concerning pvp...meaning once you hit Rank 5 that's it. No arena or rated PvP to aspire to.

5) There are actually tons of daily quests - after the 4th or 5th day of grinding out 20+ daily quests a day for required rep rewards and you quickly start to notice said lack of content.

I understand the game is shiny and new but acting like it offers anything remotely new is wishful thinking at best. As I said before the leveling process in Rift was a breath of fresh air but the lack of exciting things to do once you hit 50 left alot to be desired. It's definitely a game to keep your eye on but I'd wait til they add more endgame content in or you will quickly find yourself getting bored.

Cataclysm's been so-so for me. Normally, I'd be playing 5 nights a week but that's becoming less so. Even if I do play 5 nights, the time per night is becoming less. This past week, I only managed 3 nights for raid and skipped non-raid nights entirely.

Things just feel a bit rushed. Farming node spawn problems with phasing can be bad at times. Tol'barad balance issues. The Worgen running is lousy not to mention the awful "mount" animation. Their starting area was also a bit odd with all the phasing. It had some moments but I was mostly just impressed with the city.

I'll be curious to see how BF3 ends up looking. A friend pulled me into WoW from BF2 so maybe it's time to bounce back to some FPS fun.

I agree with a lot of what you said, but the game did launch with a lot more end game content then most other MMOs do, if not more.

You totally missed my point. I had access since the head start as well. Do you know what level my character is? 27. Could I have been 50 in a week? Probably.

I cannot imagine that you actually enjoyed the game in it's entirety, playing it in such an extreme fashion. Did you even bother to read any quest text, follow a story line, or allow yourself to be immersed in the world? Maybe? (Doubtful?)

It seems to me like you expect a newly released game (or any game for that matter) to have an endless supply of content, and that is just unrealistic. Redundant tasks eventually get boring, and this applies to every game I've ever played. FPS, MMO's, etc.

The thing is, Tirion is aware of the general mindset of the overly-cautious MMO player. They've seen the MMO failures of the past, and it seems they have done everything in their power to prohibit Rift from following suit. The launch was seamless, bugs are minimal, content is abundant, etc. And to tell you the truth, I'll wager money that they will release new content at a break-neck pace.

So, my point was - slow down.

Im enjoying Rift, I was in beta's and the head start program. I am just level 32 now. I dont move to another zone until I do all the quest from the currect zone, and get my title of getting the zone completed. I take my time enjoy and add some PVP into the mix. I sign up for 6 months and I never do that, usually 3 months is the norm for me.

So now I can't enjoy the game because I level faster than you? Playing the game faster than someone else doesn't mean I took any less enjoyment out of it or that "I'm doing it wrong". I'm a hardcore MMO player. You can attack me on a personal level all you want but the fact remains is that RIGHT NOW there is a distinct lack of content for a level 50. Obviously, playing at a casual level is going to extend your experience in ANY game. As great as the game is (and I never said it wasn't) there currently isn't enough to do once you hit level 50. I'll definitely be keeping my eye on the game but I won't be resubbing until I see more of a commitment to endgame content.

I dont get how you are knocking end game content in RIFT.

Have you ever played a single MMO at launch?

You dont focus on the end game content during the time where 95% of your playerbase is leveling. Make the leveling smooth and balanced then work on end game.

I would say "no," but he did say he's hardcore. ;)

Exactly. In its current state there just isn't enough to do to satisfy say a hardcore WoW raider in terms of content. That was the point I was making, not to try create another endless "hardcore vs casual" debate. The game definitely has potential but the time period after the free 1 month sub runs out is going to be critical for them in terms of giving people @ 50 enough content to mess around with. Eventually everyone WILL be 50 and whether you are hardcore or not you'll quickly find out there is not a whole lot going on @ 50. I would also like to point that the difficulty of the Tier 1 + 2 dungeons is no walk in the park (which is awesome) so if you aren't the type that makes alot of friends while leveling this could hinder people trying to run them for the first time. I don't know if I would go so far as to call them "un-puggable" but there is a definite step up in terms of a learning curve.

Like it or not WoW has changed the entire MMO landscape in terms of setting and raising the bar. If you don't launch a game with a fully featured endgame it's going to fail. The goal is get the customer to come back after their free time is up. As it stands RIGHT NOW I don't know if Rift has enough to be able to do that. I certainly hope it can because it did so many things right.

I played WoW from launch, probably playing the most during vanilla and maybe during TBC. I quit playing after season 2-3(?) during TBC as I was frustrating with Hunter LoS issues in the arena, and was just getting tired of it. I cam back to the game a couple months before Cata launched, messed around in some of the 80 raids/ect (since it was so late in that expansion it was easy to gear up/ find groups.)

I basically came here to say I am currently having as much fun as I ever have had in WoW playing Catacylsm. 1) Most of my original crew is playing again and are all on the same server and guild (god i waited years for this to happen o_O) 2) The game looks beautiful and plays incredibly smoothly, and flying on Azeroth really added a whole new lvl for me. 3) Underwater zones!

I still play, but not as much. I used to play every morning before work...when I would get up at 7AM, worked from home and didnt have to start work until 9AM. Now I have to get up at 4AM and be out of the house by 6AM to fight traffic to get to new job. Only been at job for 3 weeks so getting used to the new schedule so when I get home I dont do much but watch a bit of TV, have dinner and go to bed.

I uninstalled WoW about 2 weeks ago when I realized that all I ever did was log in, sit around in org, buy anything I ever needed on AH, and got summons to all the raids. I couldnt even tell you what half of the new zones looked like cause I hadnt had any need to go to one of them for months. Heroics were pointless when you have decent raid gear, and pvp/arenas got pretty boring as well once you got all the free pvp epics. Crafting is a joke when you look on the auction house and see 10 of the same item that you can craft, with each person undercutting eachother to the point you cant make any gold off anything anymore. And another thing that really pissed me off, is all of the damn hotfixes. I would log off my priest one night, log back on the next day and have half my skills changed with no patch or anything, just a hotfix until they can fix the tooltip with a real patch....

WoW is digging its own grave, maybe they all have stocks in SWTOR. HAH

You must be delusional if you think WoW is "digging its own grave". Even if SWTOR is a massive success it still wont be dying off. There is a reason its been on top as long as it has.

What makes you think that SWTOR is going to be any different?

I know, things like travel convenience, a working economy, and continual bug and balance changes are the indicators of a failing game...

Rift will flunk like the rest, it's probably already on it's down turn.

I don't hold much hope for TOR, I hear to many mixed reviews and negatives.

Guild Wars 2 sounds very, very tasty, persistant world, regional public event things; however they may just be good as spinning buzz seeing as how Aion was cool at launch but quickly and typically plummeted. I half expect the same for GW2... but the absence of monthly fees... that's nice, that's very nice...

Currently on WOW hiatus, subscribed to Aion. Since the mass server merge... the servers are a bit spare, but healthy enough, I think 4 servers total that are smaller than WOW. Wouldn't take much more leeching of players to kill the game. Maybe it'll go free-ish like WAR or LOTRO did?

i played wow for years. but i have not played it for months now. i dont miss it. i play bfbc2 and i am waiting on bf3 to come out. i grew out of wow. which is ok with me.

1) Most of my original crew is playing again and are all on the same server and guild (god i waited years for this to happen o_O)

The single reason I play this game. The group of friends I made throughout vanilla, been playing many different games since, have, for the most part, managed to all congregate onto one server and we have our own tiny 10-man guild going. It's so much damn fun and miles better than running and maintaining a 25-man outfit. Having some of the most fun I've had in WoW since.

I stopped playing after all of my friends left. I have tried to get back into the game, but I just keep reminding myself that I don't have the time to raid. Which is typically one of the few aspects of the game I haven't really seen. Most raiding guilds require 3+ days a week for their raiders. With my work schedule, I am completely limited to the weekends. Was planning on creating a weekend raiders guild, but I really don't have the time to devote to running a good guild. At least without searching for a good collection of officers to fill in for me. The LFG setup makes that more difficult as you are rarely running heroics with people on your server. Which means spamming on the trade channels in cities. They need to allow you to choose whether you LFM on your server or on your Battlegroup.

Plus, leveling an alts great from 1 to 60 in Cata is a lot of un. Then you hit BC and none of the changes from WoTLK and Cata have made any impact on the BC story lines. Kind of makes it less then interesting from 60 to 70.

Tried Rift, but was alright until I hit the level cap and decided it wasn't really that great. I'm hoping SWTOR will be a good story filled MMORPG. For now I will continue running through Borderlands.

I quit a couple weeks after release and getting my druid to 85. Heroic dungeons were too time consuming and uninspiring. As a full time college student and part time employee (mixed in with my girlfriend and the night life) I don't have time to raid so that was out of the question as well. I tried to PvP and was fully geared in about 3 weeks of playing here and there. Feral PvP was overpowered and in the end became repetitive and tedious.

I've been playing on and off since release of vanilla WoW. Typically play for a couple months then take a break for 6-8 months for a fair amount of new content to release. However, after this expansion I don't see myself coming back anytime soon.

Battlefield: Bad Company 2 has been a much more fulfilling game for myself and is much more flexible with my schedule (obviously). Currently play that when I find time and am eagerly awaiting the release of Battlefield 3.

i don't remember posting here, not going to bother but i quit 2 months ago because it was totally boring. went to friends over Christmas week, played wow, come back and i quit.

i also tried Rift beta last month, bought it and 2 days later i quit. I have other shit to deal with.

I've been a pretty serious player for a long time. I was a Grand Marshal on Stormreaver on the 1.0 pvp system, no small task i assure you. I've killed every end raid boss when it was top tier including KT 1.0 and cthun. I've been a progressive raider and pvper for years. Off and on of course but more on than off. I was on a break when Cata came out. I killed the LK and decided I had had enough. I was conflicted about the game. I preordered in, then cancled, then ended up getting it anyway. I blew throught about 2 levels the first day playing with my girlfriend and it was a blast but it's just the same old shit. I uninstalled the next week and haven't gone back. I think I'd still log in now and then if it were free to play but it's not and money is tight. I picked up rift and loved it at first but also quickly lost interest.

Honestly I just don't think I'm the mmo type anymore. Eagerly anticipating Diablo III and Battlefield 3

I think this is the way I'm starting to lean right now. WoW's been fun but it's starting to feel overplayed. Diablo 3 and Battlefield 3 are the two games I'm anticipating may have me canceling my WoW account.

Funny thing is that I got pulled into WoW by a friend when we were playing BF2. It would be somewhat humorous that BF3 pulled me away from WoW.

Content becomes easier as you get better gear? NO WAY!!! Who'da thunk?

Of course heroics are going to be easy once you get raid gear. Of course PvP will feel easier as you get PvP gear. That's like saying math isn't challenging because you can do basic algebra in your head in a matter of seconds...as a college student.

Just tried to get back into WoW the last week or so, and it feels forced :(

I have been playing WoW since launch, 6yrs now, I was dying for Cataclysm being bored at the end of Wrath, and played Cat the whole month of December, but after those 3 weeks was feeling really burned out with the game, Cat was cool and fresh at first, but I seemed to a hit a wall very fast, and started to get bored. But when Outland and Northrend expansions came out, I was playing those for many months before I even got close to getting bored or burned out, but with Cat it was over fast, in few weeks.

So I took almost 3 months off, came back to it last week, and just not feeling it anymore. "Been here, done that before" feeling. I am leveling up two characters I left off at Level 84 in Twilight Highlands, and the quests just seem so dated, and the AI is horrible. The NPC's in some parts are there to help attack enemies, but then if you pull an enemy back to the NPC crowd they just stand there, blind like they don't see it  come on, that's lame. Too much of that going on, the A.I. overall just seems stupid, and it makes the game feel dated and a grind.

I finally think I can say, WoW thank you, had a great 6yrs, but it's over...

I just tried WoW again after quitting just before Cata was released. It was awesome to see all the changes to the world and the new talents that were much simpler but its still the same game from almost a decade ago. Even as a healer, I adapted to the changes by the time I hit 85 and I just didn't feel like paying $15 a month to be mildly amused.

The only time I miss WoW is when I'm bored and I know how much of a time killer WoW can be. And I really miss the fact that I can't spam Jesus Beams on my shaman anymore :(

I never got into WoW, once tried the 10 day free trial but it just didn't appeal to me. I'm going to try out the Star Wars MMO, the scifi settings are more my style than fantasy. I must say that if there ever is a Mass Effect MMO.... Count me in!

Anyone else hit a 4.1 lull? Seems my guild is starting to fall into the "wait for 4.2" mentality a bit. 2 10m groups are down to 1 with a couple bench warmers since several from one of the groups left to form their own guild and we've had a fair bit of boredom attrition set in.

I suppose on nights where the raid is full, I can look to level some alts and maybe finish re-gearing my Druid for Cat/Bear.
