WoW; 6h expansion Legion

Odd the link wasn't working. But yeah, that's my build for right now. Doing about 300-350K in LFR, at 860 ilvl. Gearing up is SO easy now.
 
My Frost DK is now i887, but I'm still doing crappy DPS, like 375k on average. Even my Guild is asking me what's up, due to my gear I should be doing way higher damage.

Do I need to use an add on like Weak Auras 2 to make this work ?

I met another DK, he's i896 and doing 800k all the time, he said all eh does is it the shiny flashing buttons LOL Just once they pop and glow hit those, and there's really no rotation, just HB + FS + OB + Syn when ready.
 
No I am not a WoW noob, and no this is not a boosted 100 character.

I started playing WoW back in November 2004, and created this Death Knight back in Wrath expansion. But all my characters have been Tank spec 90% of my WoW time. This DK has been a Blood Tank all the way up to February of this year. I can Tank heroic dungeons with ease, I can Tank Mythic+ dungeons very well too, I Tank +10 with no problem. But the reason I stopped Tanking was that in Raids I suck balls, just not knowing the mechs well, and my Guild has three super great Tanks already, no need for a fourth average Tank.

So I decided to switch to DPS.

I tried Unholy at first per my Guild recommendation, saying it might be easier to learn, and faster to get higher DPS going. I ran that for a few weeks, got some decent gear, but I hated Unholy, so I switched to Frost after that, and been on Frost a couple weeks now. But I am shocked at my shitty DPS. Thankfully my Guild is super cool, very understanding, and still let me run with them on NH Heroic. Which I am super grateful, but I feel bad due to my crap damage.


Is it my mixed bag of leftover Tank + Unholy gear that's hurting me ? I only have a few pcs of true Frost gear.

Or am I not doing my rotation in the correct order ? And I see I didn;t select the correct Talents for the Syn spec, I will change that, but to be honest not a huge fan of that build, I know some other DK's doing pretty good DPS on the Machine Guns style, but if Syn is the only build to run now, I'll stick to that.

BoS is the main raiding spec. I haven't switched to it yet because I've always hated the BoS mechanic in the past, but I think I'm going to be forced into it.

Since I'm getting the hint you don't want to link your armory page, can you at least tell me what legendaries you're using? And if you have any tier pieces? (Edit: nevermind, found you on mmo-champ)

WeakAuras are great, and I would recommend it for anyone even raiding LFR, but it's just a tool, and it doesn't "do" anything without plugging code into it. So when you say "should you be running WeakAuras" do you mean to get a rotation going? To use it to warn of boss abilities? To show you what cooldowns are up? These are all separate things to plug into weakauras. Using it on its own literally does nothing.

Going over your armory - Looks like you have some really unoptimized gear. RNG sucks, it happens. But look into replacing those rings, the helm, etc. Get as much vers and mast replaced with haste & crit as possible. More crit, less haste. The legendary... sucks, but it's not like you can help that. If you're doing 375K on bosses, you're not doing as bad as you were, thats for sure. I'd replace avalance with Hungering Rune, and ditch white walker for Permafrost, but that's minor.

Yeah, that's a huge, huge hit. Enchants/gems too. Don't even have to go with the expensive ones, at least not till you hit 870+ gear.

I currently have a 892 Frost DK, that I am not really digging right now. I just can't get comfortable with the BoS style, just not my thing. I much preferred Machine Gun back in early Legion, but now that's low damage outdated style today, and the Sin build is the only way, but I am tired of it, and don't like it. I still find the MG build a 100 times more FUN, but I know the dps of MG is just shit, and you can't Raid in that build anymore, or be laughed at with shitty 350k damage only. And since I don't like BoS build, I am willing to try another DPS class out now.

So...I liked to dust off my old Warrior, that has always been like a third alt for me, but he's Level 101, and I'd like to get him to 110. This Warrior has been a Tank his whole time, more of a practice thing, for fun character, but I don;lt Tank in Legion, and would like to try a DPS Warrior out, but I have no idea which is more fun, and does the best Damage for M+ and Heroic Raids ?

- Which spec is fast attack like the Frost DK, Arms or Fury ?
- Which is the better DPS in legion ?
- And how is the playstyle for each, meaning rotation wise, etc...
- I don't want a spec where I'm waiting on tons of cd's and twitting my thumbs with no active spells to press. I want fast attack, with smooth consistent rotation, or proc's ready to go if others on cd.

Fury is pretty simple, arms is one of the more complex, highest APM rotations in the game.

That being said, I tried out a BoS build this past week, and it's not bad at all. Nobody expects you to hold it for a full minute like in WOD, but you can easilly extend it. Wait till you have full RP and runes, hit winter, Pillar, BoS. Then just obliterate your ass off, howling when Rime hits, Horn when you have less than 4 runes, and Hungering rune weapon somewhere in the middle.

Honestly, if you want a fast spec, go with Enhance shaman. It's exactly what you're looking for.

Do you main a Frost DK ?

So BoS spec seems to be a must have, no other option for Raiding ? Just sucks without doing BoS and just do an old MG style, you can only do like 350k to 400k damage, whereas the BoS build can burst for 700k+ . I just wish Machine Gun wasn't so bad. My Guild guys are all doing 800k+ dps, but none of them are Plate wearers, they mostly spell caster type class.

I may give this Fury Warrior a try, will take a bit to level him up to 110 from 101, and gear him up, but lucky my Guild is awesome, and they'd carry me through Normal raids even as a fresh 110. So gearing up once 110, would be fast.

I play unholy not frost, but there are logs out there that have people holding boss almost until the cd is almost back up.

Have you tried any of the ranged dps classes?

I don't play melee dps in raids because I can't see and track my character well enough. My demon hunter is fun in open world and dungeons but I stay out of raids because I hate making stupid mistakes.

My warlock on the other hand is great and hardly ever make positioning mistakes.
Open world I can go to an area round up a dozen regular guys with no problem, can handle half that in elites depending on their abilities. 112s I don't wait for people to get there I do it myself.
The self healing is great, out of raids my down time is almost zero. Even in raids I usually am able to keep my health up with little help from healers, depends on the situation of course.

My 110s include a warlock as my main, hunter, DK, and DH. Have leveled others to 100 but they didn't appeal to me. The other classes may kill one mob faster than my warlock can one on one. I feel I can grab more with my lock and kill them all at the same time it takes others to kill one or three. Could just be because I play my warlock more than the other classes and don't know the others as well.

My pleasure man. I don't main a DK, I actually just leveled him to 110 because of your frost issues, I wanted to see how the class was. I mained a DK through MOP, and a bit of WOD. Kind of gave up when they got rid of Unholy Necroblight, it was by far my favorite playstyle. I never liked frost much at all as a spec, and I feel the same way now.

Right now I'm maining an assassin rogue (900 ilvl), also have a lock at 890ish, the DK is up to 875, and a druid at around 840. I started with the lock, as that was my first love back when I returned in MOP, but man... I just can't get into it. Demo is fun but clunky, very spammy as a class, but it works well. Movement kills it though. Aff can be boring, but the DPS is insane. Destro is, and always will be garbage in my eyes. ;)

When I moved on from my lock in MOP, I went feral/boomkin, so I figured I'd try out the druid in Legion. So far... Meh. From what I hear, 7.2 murdered Druid DPS, so it is what it is.

I have every single class leveled up to 100 due to prepatch invasion leveling, so I'm debating on what to do next. I think it might be warr or Ele shaman, really. The only thing holding me back on the shaman is that I chose enhance as the first artifact and I hate it so much I don't think I can bare getting to 102 to change it.

Completely agree. I loved my Frost DK, well I did, up until this stupid BoS build came out. That Sin build changed my love of Frost to now hate, and he's geared well at 892, and all Traits maxed out, and great Relics, etc... I put a lot of time into my DK. That I think I might park him, and not play again until they get rid of BoS.

I feel like a walking fire extinguisher, with the shit spitting out of me, and I don't feel like a fast attack ninja anymore, with dual swords slicing and dicing. BoS has killed Frost to me.

And it really sucks that BoS is the only option, MG or any other Build is practically useless now in Raids and Mythic+, you do half the DPS or worse. Blizzard needs to make radical changes to Frost DK's in patch 7.2.5 or maybe not until the next expansion.

Moving forward, I need to get comfortable with Fury and figure out my best rotation. Since I am Level 102 and going through the broken Isle questing, will give me time to get used to this Class and Spec.

I was hitting the training dummies in my Class Hall, and using Recount it showed me doing in the low 400k's, but my Guild mate was helping me, and got me with the right rotation, told which to spells to hit, and how to play it. And I seemed to get pretty comfortable with it after a few minutes, and I thought I was doing pretty high dps after that, but recount didn't seem to prove that.

Basically he had me do this;

-Cast Pillar of Frost
-Open with Howling blast
-Hit Obliterate several times
-Then hit Frost Strike once or maybe twice
-Click Obliteration once
-Then mainly rotate between Obliterate #1 the most when it rime procs, and Howling Blast only when it rime procs

-Rinse and repeat he said


How come Recount shows me only doing like 400k dps or so, but Raidbots says I should be doing 560k ?
 
So here's the thing... Stop using Simcraft to determine your DPS. Simulationcraft assumes consumables. Flask, food, potions x2, general buffs during the fight, AND a patchwork type of fight. It also assumes you have 4 piece tier, which you do not, and your tanking legendary is fucking killing you. STOP WEARING IT. Get ANYTHING else, seriously. Any DPS oriented trinket will give you much better results, AND it's artificially inflating your ilvl when comparing between other players and DPS sims.

That being said, it's simply not accurate. Dummies are there for you to get your rotation down.

Use this: https://www.warcraftlogs.com/statistics/11#difficulty=4 and adjust for each boss fight and your own personal ilvl. It gets down to a granularity of 2 ilvl blocks, so you can see EXACTLY how people of your ilvl perform, and what your DPS should be. Also, don't be upset if you're in the 50th percentile, or 75th, or whatnot. Be upset if you're under 40%. Reason being, these people that are ranking at such high percentiles are A: padding meters, and B: have perfect combinations of legendaries and gear. They also might have teams that are overgearing the fights (their guild is all 920, and they're gearing an alt up who is 875) so fight times will be shorter, which means opening burst counts for MUCH more than normal fights do.

Edit: Just realised you're still running a hybrid MG style instead of BoS, so the rankings will naturally be higher than what your DPS is, just by value of talents.

Thx for the advice. I will dump that Tank trink ASAP, and after I pick up a new trink just from a WQ or somewhere.

As far as BoS I hate that build, and will take the dps hit and stick with MG, I never Mythic Raid or anything that hardcore, I mainly run Normal Raids, and M+ dungeons up to 10.
 
Zor, at that point, why not just stick to Unholy? You said you seemed to like it and were doing well, no? Or am I misremembering?

Also, if that's the case, optimize what you can, and if anyone complains about the DPS, tell them to go kick rocks. /shrug
 
Thank you, this setup GREATLY improved my dps over what I was doing, plus I took off the Tank trinket I had, and picked up a 860 DPS Trinket from a WQ. Now I am doing 475k dps per Recount against the Dummy, which is greatly improved from my 347k or so.

I am doing the build based off a MMO guys advice;

Murderous efficiency
freezing fog
icecap
doesn't matter
doesn't matter
gathering storm
obliteration (can swap to GA if you need the aoe)

This should provide more damage than the typical mg build with icy talons and ra and play more or less the same, except you don't have to worry about maintaining icy talon stacks every few seconds and instead just focus on getting large gathering storm stacks with remorseless winter.

RA is not as good as it was in Emerald Nightmare because they fixed a bug with it, and the small amount of RP it gives you is not better than the damage increase from gathering storm on ST and especially AoE. Freezing fog is much better than frozen pulse because with t19 2 set we have so many rimes that it becomes our top damage ability. And without Ra and FP, icy talons looses a lot of it's value, and our auto attacks are such a small part of our dmg that the extra runes from ME will be better for more obliterates and rime procs.
 
Just checked the armory, yeah, that haste trinket will be awesome for you until you can grab something out of NH.
 
I am new to Warrior DPS, haven't touched my Warrior since MoP days, was Prot Tank then. I leveled him to 110 this week, and now at i863 in Fury spec, and really LOVE this class and spec a ton. So much that my main Frost DK i892 will be retired, and this Fury will become my new main.

 
It's funny, my warrior and mage are coming up now. If you do the legion invasions with them, they get 1 level per. Nice easy way to level without dealing with the storyline bullshit. I'm holding off on new alts until I get flying next week, though.

I am running the game at 3840 x 2160 4k res. But I had no AA turned on, typically at that high of a resolution didn't think it was needed. But I turned on 2X for now. Wonder how big a hit 4X would be ? With 2X enabled I barely saw any performance drop.

I am very happy with this Warrior. I DING'd 110 just last Tuesday, and now i875 already, with my first Legendary. Only been playing a little bit this past week, just an hour or so at night, and very happy with the play style. The Charge and Leap are really fun, makes this class feel much more mobile than my Frost Knight.
 
I've been rolling Arms warrior after looting Destroyer of Worlds from Hakkar back in 06. My current ilvl is 880 and I feel like im having trouble keeping up on DPS so I'm thinking of switching to Fury.

I'm a very casual player, barely hitting 880 yesterday (took 2 months off because life, was at 770 for a while), I'm having trouble getting into raids. Groups only want people that have experience in Heroics/Mythic raids and wont take a chance on me. Anyone else having this issue? Every description is "know the fights". I can only go so far in LFR and watching videos online doesn't help if I never get to experience the fight.
 
Fury is known to be THE DPS spec for Warriors. Everyone on MMO Champ saying Arms is gone in Legion and Fury only option.

As far as the Elitist Raiders, yeah it's super hard to get into a pug. They all want i900+ players. And if they do pick you, they want to see 500k dps minimum on each boss consistently, or they boot you. PUGs are so hit or miss. Some are great and smooth runs, but most seem to be fails with wipes and people getting frustrated.

Only way to Raid heroic Nightold is with a good Guild. Even Normal NH is done best with your Guild, they can help you and support you.

Emerald Heroic can be pug'd though.

Pretty much. It is one reason why I usually end up leaving the game within a few months of an expansion coming out. The first few months people seem way more open, friendly and forgiving. Then it devolves back into people bitching about every little thing. My lock is in the 880s so I need lucky rolls for loot upgrades. Based on my past raiding I could move onto to higher difficulties but it seems like such a hassle anymore to deal with these people just to get a few more item levels.
 
I'm enjoying leveling up a fury warrior currently at level 103. Never played the spec before legion so still figuring out things but it's been fun so far. I normally play a warlock but this expansion they seem boring.

LOVE my Warrior Fury, just DING'd 110 last week, just i875 now, but hot dang, this class is a blast to play :) Super fast attack killer. Very mobile character.

Yeah the game is out 6+ months now, and you either need to be in a good Guild, that supports you and has your back, if you are in a great Guild, you can run Normal and Heroic Raids together all the time, and still have fun. But if you aren't in a Guild at all, or in one that barely Raids much, yeah your out of luck as far as Raiding goes. PUG's suck balls overall.

Even running Mythic + for gear, it's hard to find a solid PUG group to do the higher+ runs, they can be good groups or shit groups, and wipes. To run Mythic +8 and above, you need to run it with friends or Guilds.

Bottom line, if you want to Raid or Mythic+ you need to be in a good supportive Guild, otherwise forget about it, the game has nothing more to offer then, if you want higher iLvl gear. To be in iLvl 900 gear, you can only get that running like Mythic +10's and Heroic Raids, and to run those, you need to be in a Guild.
