I laughed when I first heard that Gearbox was asking $400 for this. That is until I found out it comes with a radio-controlled Claptrap!

The Handsome Collection will also receive an extremely limited collector’s edition, the Claptrap-in-a-Box Edition. Limited to only 5,000 units worldwide, the Claptrap-in-a-Box Edition includes a remote-controlled Claptrap steward robot that looks just like the in-game character! He is designed and detailed to look just like the Claptrap you know and love - or maybe hate - and now you have the power to control him from your iOS and/or Android device with a companion app called ClaptrApp.

$400 for borderlands 2, the pre-sequel, a bunch of DLC, some lithographs no one is going to ever care about, and a $50($100 tops since it includes a camera) RC toy?

No.

Silly headline. The handsome collection isn't $400, only the limited edition version that's very obviously intended for diehard fans.

Its too bad that Borderlands 1 isn't included in this, since IMHO that's still the best Borderlands in the series.

If you can show me a remote control one wheeled gryo stabilized RC toy that has a camera and talks smack and has support for phone control for $50 I'd like to see it

This is a ridiculous amount of money for something like this. I guess there are going to be some hardcore fans of the franchise that will want it though.

Borderlands series isn't something to get worked up about as a game. I've played 1,2,preqel and only 2 was good. 1 and prequel was bad.

2 worked cause at least the environments changed and there was enough comedy to keep me entertained while killing the same the Jason Voorhees over and over. Handsome Jack was also good comedy as he would say things that were funny. There were a verity of enemies that at least kept the combat less grindy.

First game was a giant junk yard and the prequel became boring and opinionated about sexuality. You spend the entire time on the freakin moon that essentially looks like one giant junk yard. So no, I don't think people should obsess over this game series.

That claptrap rc is completely bad-ass. I didn't realize actual gyro stabilized robots were that far along and this makes me think an actual useful claptrap will be around way sooner than I ever expected.

Almost, I think I'd pay $200 just for the Claptrap were that an option.

Kudos to the programmer who did this for the company in addition to his normal job for no extra pay (to him).

This franchise was never good and will prove that people will play anything. Worthless characters, ugly locales, and cel-shading---what is this, 2000?

Yeah but...it was fun. Which is still, IMO, the primary point of a video game.

And a 1-wheel stabilized RC is pretty badass. Have no need for it, but would love to see it in person. Could see an RC enthusiast grabbing it.

The little claptrap is kinda cool. They should have been selling those for $50 a pop during the BL2 heyday.

Yep. I effing love this series. It's just fun. Plain and simple. I'm no Pitchford-apologist either. The series is good, and I'll continue playing it, and enjoying it for as long as they still pull off something fun.

Also, the claptrap is cool, though, like you I really have no need for it.

If the arms moved and they had borderlands 1,2 and the prequel, yes. Since they don't and it does not include borderlands 1, no.

Johnny 5 doesn't have any trouble with stairs.

And no I'm not shelling out 4 Bens for that!

All depends on what you consider fun. Even though Borderlands is a first person shooter, it's mostly a RPGish type of game. In fact it's a lot like Destiny, or is Destiny a lot like Borderlands? Anyway, the idea is that the combat in the game is meant to be pointless. Anyone can just walk through an area and just blow enemies apart. It's just a Grind used to appeal to people's need to acquire new things. It's just one endless rat race.

It's the reason why I hated Borderlands 1 so much and never understood the appeal. I never liked the item system either, as I stood around trying to figure out if a purple weapon was better than my green on. The game is deliberately trying to confuse players if an item is better or not, but that's the whole appeal to the game I guess. The hunt for a better weapon must go on.

But as a ex WoW player I'm desensitized to the whole item instant gratification thing. I'm older and wiser now, so games like these are beneath me. Borderlands 2 was a fun game because at least the developers tried their best to not use the item system as the main selling point of the game. I loved the humor, and the quests were well thought out. Unlike the first game, the second wasn't one big ugly junk yard. Also characters like Mad Moxxi's with her sex appeal did help. Also characters like Tiny Tina made the game more entertaining as a comedy, like Duke Nukem 3D or Serious Sam type of comedy. Which if you think about it Borderlands is also a game about endless swarms of enemies that come at you. Except in the not fun way like Serious Sam.

Borderlands Pre Sequel was a giant mess, as it took what made Borderlands 2 good and threw it away. Pretty clear it was a cash grab instead of trying to improve on the franchise. But so far out of the three Borderlands games, only 2 would be considered worth buying. But that really depends if you like endless item farming with no context. It's a game I would play once or twice, but never more.

Jesus fucking christ is this what gaming has come to?

Sorry but I've been reading Evolve threads on Steam community forum, with heated debates over the price of the game ( DLC etc ).

Pretty cool - but I have better things to do with $400. I liked Borderlands 1 - it was fun (although the ended sucked!). I haven't played the rest yet - took a break.
If this were $200 - maybe for the Claptrap. I've done much worse :)

I really dig the claptrap RC, that's pretty freaking awesome. But it is a bit disappointing that his arms are not controllable. What's a claptrap without a high five feature!
But for $400, hell no. They should just sale claptrap, I'd buy one if the price was right.

I agree with a few items here. (aside from Borderlands not being fun... it's a fucking blast...) Anyway, yes, they should sell the Claptrap on its own. They also should include all three games plus all DLC in that package. The fact that Borderlands isn't included is asinine. Also agree that if Claptrap can't high-five, something's not right.

Phone support is actually what kills it for me. I want a dedicated remote. the entire functionality resting on an app from a third party app store is not acceptable.

Seems like a cool toy to blow money on if you have it. Be fun to mod and get moving arms and being able to program some actions into it.

Very awesome little toy. $400 isn't very expensive for most people. I can see hobbyists, tinkerers, or just people looking to deck out their man-cave picking one of these up.

We have some amazing modders around here, I would like to see what they could do with one of these.

Someone needs to make a GLaDOS I can mount from the ceiling....

Only if I'm allowed to pre-order it, so I can just assume the RC toy works well without any reviews or independent operation footage or peer commentary.
