Would the gtx 1070 be around the gtx 980ti in terms of performance?

Were there any 1070 preorders as well? Anyone get on the list? Super interested in reviews of this card, especially SLI since I could scoop one now and another later as I often do.

Congratulations on missing the whole freaking point. Here is a hint...read the second sentence closely.

If you are still confused then let me also say that the 1070 is a pathetic 50% increase in performance per watt over the 970.

So your answer to his question is a big fat zero... He didn't miss the point, you proved his while at the same time devaluing your own argument. You call it pathetic yet you admit it's unprecedented by way of failing to come up with a sinlge instance where anything came close, much less exceeded the improvement offered by the 1070.

That is your ignorant assessment. If you cant comprehend something so simple then that is your problem.

Based on this questionable source it appears the 1070 might be awesome: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1070 3DMark FireStrike benchmarks | VideoCardz.com

by the graph above. the 1080 is 124% of a 1070. but it is an increase of 64% in price. ($450 1070 FE --> $700 1080 FE) 63% increase in MSRP $380 to $599.

with a 980ti FTW at 3440x1440 there are only a handful of games that wont run at 60 with everything on, they are at the ~40fps. (rise of tomb raider, GTA 5 advanced sliders maxxed).

other new games like doom do at 100-70fps.

no reason to get a 1080 it seems unless you want to attempt 4k, which is another 3MP from 3440x1440.

Recent Assassins Creed game brought my OCed 970 down to 35-40 frame rates at 1080. Wouldn't be surprised if a 980ti could only get 60 at 1080. 3440x1440? Kind of doubtful.

One step down from the top-end always offers far better value. This generation is no different. If you want the King, you need to pay for it.

Well first of all it's not 63% increase, 1070 price is 63% of 1080 price. If we're talking about increase, $220 is 58% increase over 380 which is 1070's price.
Difference between 40 and 60 fps is 30% in performance, which is a bit more than claimed 1070 vs 1080 graph.
Do you wish to pay extra 58% of the price for 25% performance difference? That's a personal decision for everyone.

yeah, thats what im saying, and im saying it probably isn't worth it unless you're looking at above 2560x1440 @ 60 fps.

googling shows a stock 980ti gets 70-71fps on ultra @ 1080p. so the FTW version is probably @ 80 with more headroom to OC. a 1070 is faster than a titan x, which is faster than a 980ti. so yes, it should play okay. And again, im not saying that all titles run at 60fps at 3440x1440, new tomb raider, GTA5, among others are around 40-50fps.

I'll wait for gaming benchmarks now. I can't decide between 1070 and 1080 due to 1070's sweet price for the performance it looks like it has. I run just one 1440p g-sync monitor, so probably I could spend the extra money on htpc components. 1080's performance is still tempting though as I already know what it can do in games thanks to benchmarks.

What are the expectations of where the 980ti and Titan X will land price wise? I'm coming from 2x HD4850's. Looking at the 1070, but wondering if I can still save a few bucks and pick up a used 980ti instead. Either way, I'll end up having this card a long time as I don't upgrade often. Will probably be sticking with 1080 gaming, maybe 1440 if I can swing the money for a new monitor.

The 970, 980, 980ti, and Titan X will very shortly be completely unavailable new. If you want a used one, now is the time, when people are upgrading.

The 1070 is Titan X performance at $380. Anything less than $330 would be an attractive price for a Titan X or 980ti. More than that, just get a 1070.

You'll want the 1080 for 1440p. I have a 1440p gsync monitor with a 980Ti and while it runs everything I need it to run, i'm pretty much maxing the card out on many games and I'm rarely ever able to take full advantage of 120hz much less 144hz. Games will only get more demanding, not less.

Anyone heard anything on pricing?

No, and the MicroCenter 1080 add for Friday came to my email today but nothing about the 1070 ... I thought I read they were being 'released' at the same time? I just had a birthday, what am I supposed to do with this money, SAVE it?

In case you hadn't heard: The GTX 1080 will be made available on 27 May 2016, whilst the GTX 1070 will come slightly later with a release date of 10 June 2016.

Honestly, thanks. Guess I was mistaken that I saw them both coming out on the same day, there's too many threads (and they get too far off topic) to follow. I remember seeing $379 somewhere, but I'll bite at anything under $400.

Wait for benches. I bet you damn near anything that it won't be Titan X / 980Ti performance at the resolutions people actually use those cards at. In VR? Sure. In anything else? No.

I'm hoping benchmarks come out in the next two weeks. Regardless, I'll be aiming at mucher later AIB 1070 version with improved PCB/cooling (possibly hybrid) over the reference design. I might resell for 1080TI (or equivalent) so have to consider if a hybrid version might limit my potential buyers

I'll bet you $20 (pay via paypal) that the 1070 will be within 10% of the 980ti in the witcher 3, non-VR, in apple/apples testing in the [H] review. You in?

At what res? 3440x1440 (which they don't test, which kind of pisses me off), 4K? 1080P I don't care about, 1440P I don't care about. If it's not 1440 ultrawide+ it's not relevant -- and lets be honest, you're saying it's as capable as a Titan X, so 4K is what matters here. 4K? Sure. Anything less, no, because it doesn't matter to the market you're comparing to.

People that bought $1000 cards last round and are running top res displays aren't likely to drop down to 1080P and something under $400 now.

OK, 4K apples/apples witcher3 it is. And both cards are reference versions, no comparing a kingpin 980ti versus a FE 1070. You in?

based on the initial assessments I imagine it will slightly outperform the 980Ti at launch

that is until third party manufacturers start taking advantage of that second power connector slot available on the PCB...

Does nobody listen to me on this forum? Nvidia WON'T give you an amazing wowie-zowie blow-your-pants-off product without competition. With no competition they're going to throttle the improvements as much as possible so they can create as many iterative generations as they can to profit from.

Silliness! Doing that would leave them open to a "surprise attack" from AMD.

Nvidia has PLENTY of reconnaissance letting them know EXACTLY what they are up against, not to mention, AMD is a publicly traded company, the company's plans are laid bare every time they post a shareholder update.

There is no such thing as a 'surprise attack from AMD' when AMD literally has NOTHING to compete with.

Is there any VR games worth it? Everyone I've seen looks like it should be running on a N64?

Yeah, simulator-type games with cockpits are great in VR. Driving games, too.

The great unexpected pity of VR is that first-person games outside a cockpit don't work because they make you puke. Hopefully there's some way to overcome that, eventually.

1070 and 1080 are 1440p targeted, so despite your denial - it matters lol.

... Read again. To be fair, maybe I wasn't clear enough with my reasoning.

People who bought the 980Ti and Titan X last round are not going to buy a 1070 this round. Many of them run higher than 1440p -- those that do run 1440p are already good with their current cards, as pretty much everything can played at a solid 60 FPS with a modern CPU on a 980Ti or Titan X.

The people looking to upgrade, the people that needed more performance in the first place are those running at 4K.

The reason I'm saying 1440p performance of the 1070 is irrelevant /for my purposes here/ is that it's handled well by existing hardware. Hell, a 970 handles 1440p well in most cases.

In other words, people bought a Titan X or 980Ti more often than not for 4K. Unless the 1070 gives similar performance at 4K (and I suspect it won't) it's not the "Titan X killer for less than $400" people keep yelling about.

Nah, that's complete bullshit. You only care about super-wide and 4K, but lots of people are upgrading to the 1080 for 1440p-- I happen to be one of them. I agreed to look at 4K for our bet because it's about comparative performance and 4K was as good a measure as any.

People running 1440p with 980Tis and Titan X's are moving to 1070s? Selling cards that are still perfectly capable in literally every title at substantial loss, then buying a mid tier card when they went top end last round?

Yeah, no way in hell.

Most people running 980tis and Titan Xs aren't upgrading at all. They're waiting for the 1080ti because they're enthusiasts not high-end gamers.

If you're running Kepler or medium Maxwell, medium Pascal is super attractive. If you're running big Maxwell, not so much.

Nah. 970 is too weak for 1440p, even 980ti in some case is not great. It's if we're talking about single card performance. 4K is just becoming barely reachable with a card like 1080.

1080 can game at 4K like a 970 can game at 1440p. If you can deal with non-maxed settings, and have a g-sync monitor so you don't need to lock 60fps, it's fine. But if you need every dial pushed to 11 butter-smooth, it won't cut the mustard.

So glad I didn't waste money on a 980 Ti recently.

1070 here we come!

Yup, 1070 for me. I need to let the 680 go, it's been fun but it's time is over. :D
