Worth grabbing a second 7850 for crossfire?

So I've had my 7850 since they were first released (I do feel kind of bad for paying $250 for it but whatever). It's been a great card, and it can do a 40% overclock easily, but I'm starting to feel the need for a bit more. Today you can get an MSI 7850 2gb for $110 after $30 MIR from newegg.

I've never used crossfire before, though there seem to be a lot of critics, but it's tough to sort out fact from fanboy fiction.

There is of course the question of new cards this month, but as the NDA is still in place it's really though to plan. I'm looking at $110 after rebate for a second 7850. That puts me in r7 260X range. Do you think that the 260X is going to perform better than a 7850?

I guess my big concern is that the new cards will come out, the 260x won't be worth it, but they will have cleared out all stock of the 7850 leaving me in the position of having to find a used one.

Crossfire/SLI ... they work, but after years of using them on & off I would avoid both unless you absolutely need to. It's curious and fun at first, but for me, it got old real fast with the heat and constant quirks.

As for the new cards, I'll just leave a link to this thread here. I think it's as big a hint as you can get.

Thanks for the input. lol, I couldn't resist the newegg deal and placed my order. For $110 I'm not out that much if I decide I don't like it. My biggest concern is whether or not the new 7850 will be able to overclock as well as my old one.

Heat isn't a big issue for me as I've got a massive case and a total of 7 x 120mm in radiators.

Hey, at least now I'll be able to jump into all the arguments about sli/crossfire.

Great deal on a decent card hope the crossfire works out.

OP sell your HD 7850 for around USD 100. spend another 120 bucks and get a HD 7950 OC / HD 7950 boost. 50 - 60% faster at same clocks. massive upgrade. 3GB VRAM. single GPU is always the best option for consistent and smooth performance. on average with voltage tweaking overclocks to 1100 - 1150 mhz matching HD 7970 Ghz.

here are a few good options. unlocked voltage and good cooler. HD 7950 is unbeatable in terms of value for money.

7850 crossfire is great, I have had zero problems and at 1920x1200 have not found a title yet that I don't have more than enough horsepower to run with bells and whistles turned up.

I run my 7870s in xfire and I have very few complaints. After the frame pacing driver was released I couldn't be happier.
