no multiplayer = no purchase for me.. i can't stand playing the single player in any games.

That's usually my philosophy unless it's a 100+ hour RPG like Skyrim. I did buy Metro 2033 but for like $5-10 or something. It was a pretty great game in terms of both graphics and gameplay, but yeah, no real replay value.

I am usually on the :no MP, no buy: corner, but Skyrim is really a great game. Bethesda is turning out to be a great company. They are doing PC gaming right to by releasing the modding tools. See game companies, you can make a SHIT TON of money, and still release modding tools. Jackasses.

And the guy who was pissed at Rage and quit PC gaming to go to consoles. That's pretty sad. You go emo over the game because of consolification, then go and buy a console?

Bottom line, with the exception of the next Mass Effect, and BF3, I never, never buy games on first day anymore. I wait and see what the REAL reviews have to say, I will never take any reviewing site's opinions to heart ever again. I used to rate Gametrailers good (when they named Sins of a Solar Empire GOTY back then, they got brownie points from me), but now they are just a bunch of buttkissing console fanbois. Giving MW3 a 9.5 or whatever, you got to be kidding.

Probably Rage for me, I tend to be picky about what I spend my money on but got caught up in the hype. It was enjoyable for the most part, but it wasn't hard to put down and now I still haven't finished it.

Other than that, the Potato Sack game bundle is borderline. I had fun participating in the ARG but beyond that, haven't touched more than 1 or 2 of those games since.

On the flip side, I pre-ordered Trine 2 and I'm pretty sure I'll get my $'s worth from it considering how much I enjoyed the first game. The Binding of Isaac is almost as addicting as Super Meat Boy was, I'm really enjoying Arkham City, and can't get enough Battlefield 3. Overall, stellar end to 2011.

Ordinarilly I'd agree. However I'd had gladly spent that on the Mass Effect games if they were priced like that. However I didn't play them until they were both only $19.99 on Steam. But the time I've spent playing each of them would have been worth the price. I've put more time into them than I have some multiplayer games.

You guys don't get bored of just playing multiplayer fps games? I don't even think that BF3 is worth half price. There hasn't been anything new done in that genre in years.

i know the game is going to be awesome, but at the moment I am having MAJOR issues getting arkham city to run.
The constant CTD's are killing me, and its ruined the game for me so far.

As soon as they fix the CTD issues I will edit this post. The game WILL be amazingly awesome, but the stupid CTDs have made it a horrible experience

Interesting.. Still haven't had a chance to play it yet, but will probably pick it up during this summers steam deals. I did like the first game so hopefully that means I'll enjoy the second.

I totally agree with you about the depth of today's games. They don't make em like they used to. I just sincerely hope this obsession with FPS games wears off, we need an injection of variety and innovation back into the gaming market. Hopefully as the EU and Asia developers gain more market share, we will start seeing some more diversity.

Speaking of Bethesda, they need to bring back the Terminator games you know the GOOD ones like Skynet and Future Shock

Homefront hands down.

ugh, had to bring that game up didn't you. i tried my hardest to forget about that worthless pos game and i almost did until you mentioned it arsehole :p

Borderlands. I might send a support ticket to have that black eye removed from my account.

borderlands is friggin awesome as long as you are playing online co-op. playing by yourself gets old really quickly after you beat the main story line. was worth the 20 bucks i payed for the GOTY edition.

Replay value is based on the user not the game.

Replay value is based on the user not the game.

The more variable a game is, the more likely someone is to replay it. The user's personality, and whether or not they are interested in replaying a game again factors in, but a game that plays the same each time will get less replay out of virtually anyone than a game that varies to a large degree everytime you play it.

Brink...but like I do with every multiplayer game, I got it through a CDkey site so saving 35% on launch day kinda softens the blow a bit, but Brink was still horrible. It went from $60 to $4.99 on Steam in less than 8 months

You can afford a 6990 and three screens but need to buy russian cd keys. This is one of the many reasons why we see very few pc exclusives.

I've been burned far too many times with shitty titles in the past 5 years. But if it's a game by a trusted developer (i.e. Valve) I always make sure to pay full price. So maybe I shouldn't have said "every multiplayer game" in that last post.

SC2 (I'm late, I know). Not because its a bad game, but because I'm horrid at competitive RTS and plowed through the singleplayer pretty quickly.

Other than that all I bought this year was BC2 and BF3, both of which I have enjoyed/am enjoying thoroughly. Unless you count the money I spent on WoW time, which I wish I could get back.

SC2 is horrible not because of its competitive RTS style play, its friggin horrible because there's no variety.. but then again i was spoiled by Supreme commander 1/FA which gave you a heck of a lot more strategy options then SC2.

Want to add FEAR 3 to the mix. However, only paid like 20$ for it. But got about 3.5 hrs worth of content (only did Point Man missions and not Fettel mind control crap since levels were exactly the same and Fettel new game mechanic was fun for 10 more minutes)

I don't have MW3 and I won't be getting it. BF3 just doesn't do it for me. I had never played a BF game before I bought it. The play style is just slow and boring to me. I'm not saying it sucks. It's just not for me, and it's the game purchase I regret the most this year.

I think RAGE probably qualifies for me - a really big disappointment.

I do. I enjoy them at times and probably always will, but a solid single player gaming experience is hard to beat in my mind. It's just rare to find one these days.

Sword of the Stars 2. I'm so tired of companies releasing alphas for a quick cash grab. Then they couldn't just come out and admit they did it, instead they gave the "The dog ate the final version" excuse.

Rage for me. I actually didn't mind the gameplay itself but I was so disappointed by how consolized the whole thing was especially the graphics and the inventory system.

I feel the same way about gaming, I spend about 30% of my time playing BF3 and the rest is various single player games like Stalker, Divinity 2, terraria(?), warhammer 40k, and acouple others.

For me, Brink and Homefront I really hate that I spent more than $5 on Homefront

I got Homefront as part of a pack, but fealt I got my money's worth out of it. Steared clear of Brink altogether and was very glad I didn't buy it at launch as I intended.

Absolute worst: Dead Island.......it still won't run correctly. That and the game was just shit.

Second place, maybe tied for first: DukeNukem Forever......never even opened the package, gave it away after playing the demo.

Alice.

The game contained a showstopper bug involving the Umbrella key not being bound correctly, and because of the convoluted way the game read-in configuration scripts, fixing this was a convoluted mess.

This showstopper bug was STILL in the game two months after release, which is about the time I chose to never play it again.

MW3 - It could be semi decent for all I know but the limited FoV means I can't play for more than 45 minutes at a go without a splitting headache and serious eyestrain so....yeah I want my money back.

Brink, Homefront, and BF3.

I didn't pay full price for any of them, but I regret all three. BF3 still crashes on me after 5 minutes, but had no problem running it in alpha or beta.

Sword of Stars 2 is the worst game I have ever brought that was suppose to be release ready. The game was literally not done and still is not even close to playable after release.
