The world’s first Pirate ISP will be run from inside Swedish Parliament? Am I the only person that thinks this is a incredibly stupid idea?

To defend the rights of BitTorrent users worldwide, the Swedish Pirate Party volunteered to provide bandwidth to The Pirate Bay after previous hosts got into legal trouble in May. At the beginning of July, the Pirate Party surprised again. Not only would they be The Pirate Bay’s new host, but they would use Parliamentary immunity to run the site from inside the Swedish Parliament.

This will last just long enough for parliamentary procedure to allow the remaining majority of parliament members to vote on a resolution to keep this from happening again.:rolleyes:
 
Why does this spell trouble? If they've got backing from the government then they cannot be touched.

+1 on the epicness of this.

I mean when you think about it, huge corporations "legally" buy laws in their favor, so here's something that goes against the grain, uses all the proper channels, and bam they work the system too.
 
Leave it up to the Nordics.

Dutch people seem to scoff at restrictive laws. Heck, the Opium act pretty much sums it up.

This probably will not go over very well, but to be honest after the crap that IP holders have been pulling in the last few years, not to mention and all the money they have wasted trying to stamp out a practice some of which could be converted into actual revenue if they would just get with the times.. Yeah it wouldnt hurt my feelings in the slightest if this campaign succeeded.

DRM is BS, theres no reason why we should have to buy a movie for our DVD player, and our computer, and our iDevices. We've already re-bought all our movies and music in the past multiple times, theres no excuse to force us continue to do so now that we are in the digital age. We had to go through all that crap with converting from VHS to DVD, and vinyl to 8-track to casette to CD.. its the digital era now and what we have should be easily and legally transferable to any medium we want, without restriction, and that content should be open to fair use policies. Its going to get used or abused in that way anyway and theres nothing that can be done to stop it. Piss off enough of the people who pay your bills with restrictive policies and watch what happens.

The world would get along just fine without big media. Individuals are stepping up to the plate every day to DONATE their time to create games, movies, and music, and other forms of entertainment, and often release them free of charge on the net. Many are even doing something thats long been lost in big industry, its called innovation, as opposed to 'milking it for all its worth.'

Change or die big media. We're the customers, if you dont adapt to our needs, then you can just crawl off, sulk for awhile, and then die. Someone will step up, listen to our needs, and ultimately replace you.
 
Have any you ever though that the idea of Sweedish pirate is sort of like a Jewish hog farmer? Just doesn't seem right.
 
The internet is the future. All the shops for entertainment will eventually die off. All media will be downloaded. All entertainment will be online. They need to wake up or the train will leave without them. Internet is about freedom. They gotta adapt or face themselves getting phased out.
 
It is a brilliant move.

We have a problem with the IP organisations having to much money and politicians wanting part of that (heard it before). However the swedish parliment has a loophole in the legal system. If an elect as a part of his politic work needs to break a law inside the parlimantary building heit is not possible to take him/her to court for it.

As free information is very much a part of the Pirate Parts's politic work the conclusion is that they can set TPB up from inside tha parliment and by doing so putting the issue on the politic agenda.

As for the Pirateparty of Sweden we have 2 elected representatives in the European Parliment (1 ordinary and one as part of the Lissabon treaty). They are fighting the governments right to control and surveille the own populace. We are also expecting to reach somewhere around 2,5-5% of the votes in the national election this September and hopefully get seats in the Swedish Parliment.

So it is not wierd and it is not strange or stupid. Please google for information before making yourself look stupid.

Eventually we will be the ones left with nothing if we don't pay for things because there is no incentive to make something better. Russia has been making the same model of cars for the past 50 years because theres no incentive to make anything newer/better. I don't mind paying for things I enjoy. Somebody put their time into it and they have bills to pay and kids to feed. Nobody is ever *entitled* to free stuff, EVER.

However, I will only pay ONCE. I'm not going to re-pay for the same thing over and over. All those high paid and worthless middle men and lawyers? OUT! They create nothing yet make most of the money.
 
The ISP won't run from the Swedish Parlamaint as the article says. In fact the Pirate Party isn't even in the Swedish Parlamaint. They are only in the EU parlamaint for now. The elections this September will decide if they will make it into the Swedish Parlamaint, but I don't think they will get the 4 % required as the support seems to have diminished since the EU elections in 2008.

Other ISP's have already tried to go against the law that says you have to give out information of users suspected of pirating and they failed. I don't see how this new ISP will avoid breaking the law and still please pirates.
