World of Warships Enters Open Beta!

Dude, no the fuso is just plain awesome! Do you even Fuso bro?

Of course, or I wound not have posted that LOL

It's like throwing popcorn at the broadside of a barn, and MISSING!

If you can play decently with that thing, you have reached Unicum status brother :)

Fuso is still one of my top ships =p , even though I don't play it much

Damn. Good job :)

I guess we all have ships that fit us, and those that don’t.

Is this like Path of Exile wherein I spend approx $20 and I'm "set"?

F2P always makes me squint a bit....

money only effects the speed at which you grind, otherwise no you don't actually have to spend a dime on it.

Yeah, even the “premium” ships you can generally get one way or another if you play long enough.

I’ve spent some money on the game... but I’ve definitely got my play time out of it. There’s also no other game like it and I’ve dreamed of a game like this since I was a kid playing Great Naval Battles back in 1998.

Some of the best ships you can’t even buy, you have to earn them.

If you care about money, the best thing that can happen to you is you hate it right from the start, uninstall it, and never look back.

Wargamming is the fucking mastermind of monetizing "Free" games.

The amount of money some people have invested in this game, myself included, is bloody insane.

"Free" XP will be the death of your wallet, greased by that evil thing known as the Dabloom.

Dunkirk. It seems to me the AP on this ship is pretty weak, and it is a much better firestarter than a round damage ship, much like the Conqueror. Or am I doing something wrong?

I'm loving the Christmas events and promotions.
Between the snowflakes and campaigns I'll probably end up with enough steel to purchase the Black. Never thought I'd ever see it.

The snowflake event is pretty cool. I wish my clan would do clan battles more... when I sign on around 10pm est all the old buggers are logging off.

I'm not in your clan, but us old buggers need our sleep!

Going to alter this a bit, and I could still be wrong LOL

At longer range/plunging AP, it seems to do ok. Close range AP still seems to be crap to me.

It's a good fire starter though. Very Conqueror-ishish.

I signed up to my clan 6 months ago and have YET to have a clan battle.

Ranked Battles: Eleventh Season
A new Ranked Battles Season is coming and its rules significantly differ in comparison to previous seasons. The aim of these changes is to increase the diversity of gameplay, which should be more dynamic and fresh as a result.

Battles will be fought 6 vs. 6, on Tier IX ships, in the Arms Race game mode.

And....... Holy increased Tier 9 Premium sales, Batman !

I think I like it though. T9 is this forgotten step child for some reason.

I'm glad to see it because I simply cannot get my head wrapped around T6 and below BB's. The T61 is b far the best ship in T6 Ranked IMHO.

I've made it as far as 3.2. Back to 5 :(

T9 might have the largest variance is ship usefullness. I have no doubt the bunch of T9 premiums in testing are no accident lol.

At least it’s not T10...

Yeah, thus my Batman quote :)

It will definitely be different!

Man, I love watching this guys stuff. He has a very high natural talent for this game. He's like....the Shroud of WoWs !

The ending is awesome :)

I did it! I did it! God dammit I FINALLY did it!

Warspite and T61. Everything else is Cannon Fodder.

I gotta tell you though, I had to arm the Warspite with every damn anti-fire, fire limiting, fire extinguishing update, flag, whatever I could get my hands on to keep that bitch cool. DAMN she likes to burn!

And for yet even more Alaska action (...and more to come)

I have my pile of XP awaiting it's release.

/Just got Black yesterday, woot!. As a DD main it feels like the absolutely most OP ship in the game and I feel dirty when I sail it. :(

Every time I sail Warspite I find myself thinking about that deck on the stern. I can picture the sailors chilling out there, having a smoke, bs'ing about the day, watching the sea roll past.

Been there. Done that. IRL. Not on Warspite though :) US DD and CG. The Fantail was one of my favorite places, especially during rough see's. It don't go up and down as much LOL

You've heard it, I can guarantee it. It's fucking HOT in the Indian Ocean !

Fantail BBQ's were a prized and cherished thing at sea.

Fun Trivia: Alcohol is not allowed aboard commissioned US Naval Vessels, yet before every major cruise the Health & Welfare department onloaded some 400 cases of beer and stashed it away in various very secure sections of the ship.

So, how did we consume it? Well, ya see the Emergency Motor Whaleboats and the Captains Skiff are NOT commissioned naval vessels. So when time permitted (and it was rare), the skipper would find a nice, shallow spot in the ocean (some with sand bars just feet under the surface - All skippers had their favorite spots), drop anchor, and launch the MWB's and Captains Gig. Then the Beer would be loaded onto the boats. Then, about 8-10 sailors at a time, would board the boat. Once detached from the ship, it was no longer under command of a commissioned naval vessel and the party began :)

Eh, not so much of a party. You can't have a ship full of drunken sailors, especially in the middle of the Med during the Cold War, so everyone was limited to 2 bears. Non drinkers would go aboard and sell their 2 beers for ridiculous amounts of money. The bosuns would turn the other way, within reason.

After your 2 beers you saluted your way back aboard and went back to work.

This is one of the unique, unmatchable times I miss.

Free XP conversion is on sale right now.

And this brings up the #1 bone I have to pick with Wargamming, and that's the constant monetization of items you have EARNED already in the game, and every move you make with shit you EARNED in the game costing you dablooms, to wit:

Free XP Conversion
Captains changes (this one really pisses me off)
Upgrade changes.

I understand the need to make money but dammit, stay the fuck away from shit I have EARNED. Having to spend the equivalent of $2.50 just to re-spec a captain you already earned is bullshit.

Ah, the love & hate relationship with this "free" game LOL

Ok, I've been playing and practicing getting ready for the upcoming ranked in 8.0, which is going to be Tier 9.

DD? Nah. Too much fucking Radar. I"m tired of being on the receiving end of that shit. Until DD's have an effective counter (Chaff?) I'll leave my DD play to lower levels.

Cruiser? I might play around with that a bit, but I doubt it. I think cruisers are going to get shredded pretty quick in this tier. I might toy with Kronstadt, but I dunno. I don't think Isumo can compete.

Jean Bart? Dunno yet. She's a fast bitch, but the guns don't seem to hit very hard, the dispersion is shit, and the range isn't the best. I love the schema of fighting nose-in though and not having issues with turret traversal.

Musashi? Nope. Don't have it, never will. I don't need another Yamato in my corral.

Big Mo. Ok, now we're on to something. I only have one problem, and it's the same problem I have with the entire USA ships. Those fucking guns! Mo hits hard as hell, IF you can hit with them. That slow, lofty horseshoe gun thing, while not nearly as bad on Mo, still messes with my head.

Any pointers on how to get efficient with those things? I just can't figure out the lead.

Oh! Oh! The Lion! Maybe I should buy that and get the 419's. I love Conqy-Dong, so this just might fit me well.

Cruisers are going to be fine. Roon is going to be a giant pain in the ass for a lot of people with its ability to kite. The Lion is going to be awful to play against

JB range isn't the best? Are you sure you're not talking about something else? 24.52km is 4.52km more than it should have.

Yeah, I had that mixed up with something else.

I’ll have to look at the roon

So far the Lion is the one I’m most comfortable with but I don’t know if it can apply to the team effort well enough.

Yeah, it’s a fire starter but is that enough to help the team.

It doesn’t seem to rack up damage at the same rate the conquerer does.

I'm an idiot for not paying attention to the pros and cons of the legendary upgrades. I got the upgrades for the Midway and Hakuryu which I like but I'm afraid they'll be affected by the upcoming CV changes.

Furthermore I just earned the Yamato upgrade and didn't realize it sucks as it increases turret rotation time so I wont install it. Fuuu....ck me!

Moving forward it looks like my Zao should have been a priority to play.

Zao and Conqueror are the two best Legendary upgrades.

Some argue that the Yamato is a good upgrade too, but at least for my play style I don't see it. For the same reason. Those turrets already piss me off.

Yeah, yeah. I know about turrent management. Yammy just takes it to a whole new level.

The Republique upgrade is pretty damn bizarre too.

  • –18% to main battery loading time
  • –13% to main turrets traverse speed
  • –24% to main battery maximum firing range

Oh, and Grind much? I thought I was bad LOL I can't even imagine grinding Legendary on a carrier. wow. Hats off to you :) And you did it TWICE !

LOL, it's not a grind if you enjoy playing it ;)
Premium time also helps too. It's the only thing I spend money on in game but only when it's on sale, which it is now at 50% off. I'm currently at 720 days left of Premium time.

For those interested I recommend Premium time over anything, including ships, as you can still earn Premium ships through events, containers, and coal/free XP which you earn faster with Premium time.

I think Bla

RPF is pretty awesome for BB's too. Just wish the cost wasn't so high, but I used it on the Guilo in the last ranked and it was pretty useful when countering DD's. It allowed me to stay bow on to targets I couldn't see and also to have my guns focused well ahead of time. It was great for denying caps.

That's some REALLY interesting stuff!

I’ve seen a few of those :)

I used to operate, service and eventually teach this at the component level:

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/AN/SQQ-89

It's the largest single-purpose electronic system in the world. I was a Master Training Specialist. Only the top 3% of instructors in the Navy earn that designation.

Yep. Uncle Larry was a bit of a bad ass in his earlier years.

Now I'm challenged to grab the right fucking Ointment from the box in the morning LOL

God Damn I miss my younger years.....

Increasingly I'm reminded of the M*A*S*H theme song,

The sword of time will pierce our skin
It doesn't hurt when it begins
But as it works its way on in
The pain grows stronger, watch it grin

Happy New Years!
