It’s official: The World of Warcraft will begin filming in January. Cast has not yet been announced. Hopefully the producers will do a better job of bringing a video game to the big screen than it has in the past. So far, the record on video-to-big screen has been dismal at best.

Rumors are pegging the movie to not be some PG-rated flick, but will be a full-blooded fantasy flick, in the same path as The Lord of the Rings and will reportedly follow the RTS games from the 90s.

oooops ment this . . last post had bad link

Taking bets now on how awful this is going to be.

Ranging from I am going to literally shoot myself because I will never forgive myself to Mass rioting in LA.

Not really World of Warcraft, more or less Warcraft, doubt they are going to make a movie on a bunch of video game characters raiding/cybering each other.

I would not mind seeing a movie based around the first games lore.. It's got everything you need for a good movie except for the mandatory hollywood romance that finds its way into every movie ever made

Well this should be a good movie to make fun of :D Ironically the manga (comics) were fairly good.

I think the lore would suit itself to a fantasy film, but I don't have much faith based on how video game movies typically turn out. Plus Blizzard's track record of late..

Personally I am holding out for the sure to be a classic Postal 2 from Uwe Boll :D ... http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/1544635303/postal-2

PSYCH :p

I am actually amazed that 243 people have pledged $11,000 towards this masterpiece though ... I didn't think we had that many people that hate both film and humanity that much to try and enable this production

How do you make a movie off of a treadmill leveling mmo?
12 part 14 hour episodes of grinding for xp?
Hey!
I loved Postal! It was Uwe Boll's best work ever!
If they were willing to bring back Zack Ward (funny guy) and just tossing him out on a rampage I'd buy it on dvd in a heartbeat!

I might have cared more a few years ago, and certainly before D3 and SC2:HOTS. Now, not so much.

I've liked Duncan Jones' movies so far, so I am interested... but not that much. They're not going to let him do some three hour epic fantasy flick so anything he can do is going to feel sort of deflated next to the Lord of the Rings or Hobbit films. And 2015 is just going to be an awful time to launch this into theaters. That year is already so jam packed with huge films I'll be surprised if anyone notices it amongst the Avengers doing there thing and Batman knocking around Superman. How is anyone going to notice that film based on that game they quit playing four years ago?

I'm on the hoping side that they don't ruin the franchise (the lore that is), but heck, I haven't seen any game or anything converted to movie and wasn't massacred left and right,

They're doing it live action? Oh dear. I hope it isn't as bad as Dungeons and Dragons.

I heard that the allocated budget is "somewhere north of 100 million" so this is a real production, they're probably hoping to make it into a franchise if it becomes a hit. But that's a big if.

I already avoid going to the movies.... now I'll REALLY have to avoid going so I don't get caught up in a crowd of basement dwellers wearing fake armor with cheeto dust in their neckbeards.

Haha, awesome timing Hollywood. Striking when the iron is... kinda tepid and cooling fast.

I'm sure this won't be as entertaining as the youtube video the internet it for porn,

So instead of doing this when WoW was wildly popular they decide to do it during its decline. Genius!

Angry Birds has a movie being made for release next year.... If it happened last year, it'd be huge. Next year? Probably not...

Not sure if the hate is against the story or the fact it's an old MMO. Has Blizz watered down Warcraft that much? WoW's story is probably one of the best and well thought out. I haven't played wow in 5 years but if done well the movie could be huge. The story or Artha's rise and fall in in Warcraft 3 was great.

Live action is the way to go as it should have wider appeal than an animated movie.

Unfortunately Warcraft's art style, actually Blizzard's style in general, is very cartoony/exaggerated to begin with so a live action movie will have a very hard time looking like Warcraft. One major example is the orcs: they are six+ feet tall with the physique of a roided-up body builder and have really bad posture (somewhat hunchbacked). How are they going to potray this in live action? Have all the orcs be CGI? Say screw it and just throw some green body paint on some buff dudes?

Good point. Live action might end up looking like that Dragonball attempt, lol.

why the hell arnt they making it themshelves, blizzard are great with 3d cut scenes, they would prolly have hire a ton of staff for sound and cgi buit it would be far better than anything spat out by a studio

The only way to make a decent movie of warcraft/wow is all CGI/anime or whatever. Not live action.

Guys are jumping on the hate wagon way too early. There is great potential with a 100 million+ budget. Orcs should be easy to do under the "Avatar" system which is also being used in the new TMNT movie. Check out how Avatar was made if you don't know what I mean. Plus with this director, they won't let go to shit. Like to see them reach out to someone like Peter Jackson to co-produce. If they use the same locals as the Hobbit, which I think they will, with a few desert shots with the warcraft lore, this movie has a lot of potential. Wish they would do War of the Ancients story line. But as usual its easy to jump on the hate wagon like lemmings.

The game is more of a sandbox with a bunch of mini-quests, it doesn't have a real cohesive story line. So it could be really neat to capitalize on the investment in the WoW universe they've created over time, if they don't have a good writer that can create a book out of it, its going to fail for lack of plot.

I have hopes for this movie since Duncan Jones is doing it (He did Moon, which was great, and Source code).

Even though his other films have been mostly sci fi I am hoping he's good at fantasy, plus he actually plays/enjoys video games (as you can see on his twitter).

Hopefully the movie is more Game of Thrones like then some other light fantasy movies that go for more PG affairs.

I'd pay good money to see a tauren / night elf romance bloom on the big screen.

This is the story it should be according to information I have read.

it is possible to make a good movie, however it wont even seem like the game at all. the only thing that might look like part of the game is the character designs. there wont be people leveling up and stuff.
