Man oh man, the walking is brutal haha. I didn't forget it, but I didn't miss it either.

I agree with the talent tree being a cookie cutter if you were raiding, but I think that's to be said about every game out there. Any and all games end up with a set of equipment or skills or points done a certain way to be the MOST effective. That said, as far as questing goes and leveling, I'm having fun with the talent trees so far.
Yea I don't get the logic behind complaining that there is an optimum spec for one thing. Of course there will be! The thing with vanilla is that there is so much more than just raiding.

Also, I never had a standard Hunter spec and was invited to plenty of raids even back in the day.

I never raided in a group that required a certain spec. As long as I put down the damage.

So, all the things you hate, I loved. All of those points were things I had to work around and Blizzard didn't have to hold my hand at every turn.

The minute they removed the talent trees I knew I wouldn't be playing regular again.
Lot of good points in the thread, and while my prime was TBC and Wratch (when I truly went hardcore), you can’t discount the fact that retail WoW has come a long way in terms of boss mechanics in raids. Most of vanilla is now considered face roll because most players now have been playing so long, and mechanics have gotten far more complex over the years. Impossible? Of course not, but the challenge curve has increased for sure, and it’s something a lot of players appreciate.

Gearing is of course a mess, but you can’t win them all apparently.

FYI if anyone is planning to play alliance, have a solid guild on Sulfuras. PM for details if interested.

We came back to crush the Lich King. The only fight we encountered that was worthy of our original experience of pre-nerf MC was pre-nerf Arthas. That was a worthy fight for our crotchety old asses.

In terms of raw mechanics, yeah, more got added... But I'd categorize them as gimmicks. Picture the difference in preparation in MHW to fight tempered and Arch tempered dragons. Initial pass... Ohhhhh shiney mechanics! Eventually I'll overcome you via sheer trial and error and I'll win. As opposed to calculated, methodical, required preparation, with absolutely razor thin margin of error. Failure of 1 in 40 people is guaranteed wipe.

Later iterations of this game, while smarter and more civil, were designed to be smarter and more civil.

Early days, the game chewed you up and spit you out. There's a reason why, in the rare instances our guild met at the Orgrimmar bank a few months after release huge crowds were formed to oogle our gear.

No one else could get it at the time because the learning curve and cost of entry were astronomical, comparatively. The only time post this state that I recall getting the same feeling was when we killed Arthas at a time very few could and we sat floating on our drakes. It's a different sensation.

Blizz made the game more civil... At the cost of taking out the magic for my former self. Nowadays, I kinda appreciate the opportunity to experience the content more readily. However, what I'm describing here.... When we first beat Rag, won a battle of Titans in Alterac Valley, when we first posted the dragon heads, or when we opened the gates of Ahn Quiraj, when we first crafted thunderfury for our main tank...

These things were unobtanium for the vast majority of the player base. It spoke to dedication of the teams that could pull it off..

Much of this was before we had the Euro servers, I mean shit, we had guys overseas raiding with us from 1am to 5 am to beat the encounters.

It was just... Different. I don't know how else to describe it, but very little has ever come close to the logistical planning, teamwork, and determination needed back then.

I was horde when vanilla originally came out, then left for about 6 months. Came back and rolled alliance and liked it more. Ended up playing that for years. I rolled Horde this time because some guys on the forums did.

Only 16 though.

so I stopped playing wow at lvl 80 or 90 as a healer pally. I just remember having all the gear I could get from instances. and doing raids kinda sucked cause my group couldn't make it far. then that was it till next weeks try. so basically most of the week involved waiting for the raids to reset. there was like nothing for me to do 4 days out of the week.

my question, is there more to do in classic at lvl 60 than BfA lvl 120?

I would say even less than before. But I'm not that high yet.

Depends on what you consider to do, but I would think that classic has 5 or maybe 10% of things to do that Bfa has, some of it might feel longer or take longer, but classic has no daily quests, no expeditions, no scenario's, barely any mounts to collect, no pet battles.

Classic is basically lvl up, gear up, farm stuf for raids and raid also you could do some long ass quest chains to make the UBRS key etc..

See I'd actually there is more compelling stuff to do in classic than there was in retail. Although I haven't played BfA, last I played was at 100. But no matter how many additional layers of stuff they added to do, none of it ever felt compelling to me. I loath the mere concept of "daily quests," never touched pet anything, was never into achievements or collecting things. I always was after the core gameplay, the journey through the levels to max, then doing pvp, dungeons, and min/maxing my dude (professions, enchants etc). Maybe some raids.

So for a player like me, there may not be more to do in a strict sense, but what there is to do is the kind of stuff I enjoy, and the quality of it is much higher and I find it more compelling.

My Rogue hit 60 last week. Been farming for pre-BIS. Decided to start a warrior because no one wants to tank dungeons.

I think you're still wording it wrong. A re-creation of a game as it was almost 15 years ago does not have as much of anything as that same game that's been through 7 expansions.
if I compare the amount of suggested level 60 instances here: https://vanilla-wow.fandom.com/wiki/Instances_by_level theres 7. but I know that blizzard hasn't put all the lvl 60 dungeons in yet.

for BfA suggested level 120 https://wow.gamepedia.com/Battle_for_Azeroth_instances_by_level also 7.

did you level by instances alot or mostly quests? any tips for leveling? I still have joana's guide from like 13 years ago saved on my pc.

Loot in classic is static, mythic dungeons in Bfa can be run with keys to make them harder and the rewards better + there are also world quest that give decent rewards, lower then the high mythic dungeons, but you can solo them.

Leveling by questing is almost always better. You just need to be smart and maximize the quest value. Basically get all of the quests that you can in the area so that when you are killing mobs that you get credit for those in multiple quests and at an appropriate level. Don't do the travel out of the area quests until you are ready to leave. Drop those that turn grey that you have outleveled. Make sure that you get rest credit by hearthing back to a town before you logout. Questing will also get you reputation with your faction for rewards/discounts. If you're going to do a dungeon, google the quests for it and pick up every single one. Some of them require pre-reqs. If you don't get all of the quests for a dungeon, you can probably level faster by skipping it. Leveling is a lot slower than WOW is now but still goes pretty fast in that you can still outlevel dungeons before you get a chance to do them. That was especially true as a DPS class when you level faster but aren't in as much of demand in dungeons as tanks/healer classes.

Pay attention to the level range of areas and make sure there's isn't a better place for maximum experience gain. I always wanted to complete every quest in an area but that can cost you in terms of efficiency. Those guides are most likely spot on yet.

As a rogue I leveled 80% of it by questing. I did do some SM/ZF runs for about a total of 6 levels but the rest was all questing.

I googled zone levels and just did all the quests in one zone and then moved on to the next.

Only tips I would say are save everything you loot. Sell all gray items. The economy is pretty cheap right now so I have 3 alts that have their bags and banks full of items just waiting for all of the low level stuff to get a little more expensive. Since there are so many people leveling stuff like leather and low level ore are super cheap but when the majority of the server gets higher level and they decide to level alts or another profession, the cost of the materials will be higher just due to pure laziness.

If I were you, I would do about half of the zone quests, get a dungeon group for whatever level dungeon you can do and do it over for about 2-3 levels then go back to finish the quests. At points there were times when I ran out of quests for my level but the next zone I was able to do but killing the mobs was very difficult.

Queue. The word you're looking for is "queue." It's literally just two more letters.

According to SuperData, WoW subscriptions increased 223% in August month over month. But Blizzard told us that we didn't want WoW Classic.

View attachment 189337

Of course total revenue is down because people were buying $15 subscriptions without also buying a $40 expansion.

https://www.superdataresearch.com/worldwide-digital-games-market/
Sure subscriptions were up a ton for August but how many people will end up sticking around and keep playing. I'm sure there is a large number of people that subbed for one month to check it out and wont come back. It will be interesting to see what the subscription numbers for September look like.

I started playing a week ago and I was expecting most of the players to be high level but theres a ton of low level players and alot of layering going on. I'm on a high pop server but I guess people are still just starting to play.

Im playing on Krom Krush, there's a lot of lvl 60's running around already. My characters are only in the 30's. I don't have as much time as I used to, to play it anymore, atleast for long periods of time. But I do still enjoy it.

I'm playing on kromcrush too. I thought you changed servers. my only character is a lvl 17 priest. I should make a second character to build rested xp for in case I do want to level it. my priest's name is Seriess

I'm going to do bfd when I hit lvl 18. theres a quest that gives a good wand. I wonder if I need to be higher level to heal in bfd?

im not sure what the deal with add ons is. wow says they are out of date and gives me a warning that it might be slowing down my game, yet I have the latest versions on https://www.curseforge.com/woW/addons?filter-game-version=2020709689:7350&filter-sort=4

Add-ons are different for wow classic. Just google that and you'll find them.

https://gofile.io/?c=ctsO91 - My personal add-on collection if nothing else to use as a starting point etc.
the curseforge link is what I linked. even though mine are up to date wow says they are out of date so I have to enable use out of date addons. whatever, they work. just makes no sense.

I haven't left, horrorshow ran off with his buddies lol (its cool though :)) I have a 30 priest healer & a 34 Feral Druid & 11 rogue (playing the rogue some) For BFD you need to be lvl 22 at the minimum. Level 18 is Wailing Caverns level. I usually do the order of RFC-WC-SFK-BFD until lvl 30.

Zuule, Laraclawft & Johnnyblade are my avatar names.
