Sony France president Serge Foucher has been taken hostage by disgruntled workers upset over the factory closing. Where is that Metal Gear Solid dude when you need him?

Sony France president Serge Foucher had a bailiff testify that he was not being allowed to leave the plant and the bailiff "told us he would approach the forces of order," CGT union spokesman Patrick Hachaguer said. "He won't listen to us, we didn't find any other solution," the left-wing union delegate added.

I'm pretty sure he's listening. He's just not saying what they want to hear. That's a whole lotta people going to jail eek:eek:.

So now not only is your factory going to be closed, but you will also be wearing nice cuffs for a long long time.

Damn, some people's logic.

Without reading the article, I think they should cut off his ***** and stuff it in his mouth, then throw him out the window as an example for all the greedy corporate types.

J/k. Stoopid workers. Everyone knows taking a hostage to get something never works.

Hey, they don't have to worry about their jobs anymore! ;)

which has since 1984 specialised in manufacturing video tapes.
seriously, they didn't see this coming? Video tapes. When's the last time someone bought a video tape?

At least they will have a roof over there heads and 3 or so meals a day :p

I've felt like this a time or two. This is France we're talking about, it just might work. :)

Doesn't France have some pretty wacked-out labor laws? I seem to remember strikes being relatively common.

France is 100% socialist so yeah I'd imagine their labour laws are quite a bit different than ours.

The French have a different mindset than most countries. Ever since the revolution of 1789 they have been like that. The irony is that all this dissent was originally inspired by the American insurecction against UK, but now the Americans are probably the last country in the world where you could expect a revolution to happen.

Currect. And our revolution had nothing to do with "liberty" (stow you highschool BS history lesson) and everything to do with being tax dodgers. Several of our founding fathers found that the tea they were smuggling into the colonies was still being undercut by the official imports due to tax breaks handed out to the East India Trading co. Obviously there was only one option: revolt. War for profit: an American Tradition since 1773. Obviously the French didn't get that part of the memo. :)

The French wanted liberty and got Napoleon. Who got the better deal?

They are French. I don't see how this could be a problem. Send a SWAT team in and they'll back off. They'll simply surrender and run away. Then you round them up and stick them in jail.

Simple.

I hate not being able to edit here. I meant to tack some smileys on that and reword it slightly.

Oh well.

What if your plan backfires and the swat team surrenders?! :D

I find it amusing that the French will not send there citizens to die in our war for profit and they are labeled cowards.

How dare they not help us plunder foreign countries for resources.

As far as the video tape factory going out of business, well I mean, cmon, but I doubt anyone will go to jail unless someone is injured. The french have a pretty liberal attitude towards there people because of all the internal revolutionary changes they have gone through.

No, that's not what I was referencing. (See: Cheese eating surrender monkey's.) :p

I am aware and that stems from a crushing defeat in World War 2 by a better prepared and stronger German army, which was undone by an internal revolution in which the French took back there country and helped the Allied forces finish the war on the Axis.

I get the humor in it though, I just woke up and jumped on the comment out of boredom, lol.

Wait... now they are upset for not being able to work? It seems recently they were protesting for having to work.

War for profit??? Are people seriously still spewing this BS. I'd love to see what money the US made on these wars. Last time I remember it was costing us hundreds of Billions of dollars.

Oh you mean that the French siphoning BILLIONS off of the 'Oil for Food' UN program? You forget that the US wasn't involved in that war. We actually SPENT money in that endeavor.

Damn this no edit 'feature'

It's a factory that manufactures video tapes. Did these douche bags not figure out that it'd close eventually? Hell, I'm surprised it was still in business. Not exactly a huge demand for video tapes.

The world still needs Sony Beta tapes! Save the Whales!

Ok seriously though - quit making crappy tapes and start pumping out stuff that the area is famous for, more cheese and wine.

Great, the world needs more cheeses that smell like feet.

Yeah, but a bit more complicated how about geopolitical strategy.

Last time I remember it was costing Intel hundreds of millions of dollars for research.

Haha, you are all serious, it amuses me that you would all jump on the face of the situation. We as a country screwed ourselves, the last time we made money on a war, laff, laff, and laff. Get your head out of your respective arses, we buy out and rape other economies like fat chicks eat cake.

The French are one of the only governmental institutions that fear there own people. Its so funny seeing people support B.S. egocentricity that dominates our country.

I am all about the advancement of our society but supporting a more blatant and hateful system of government will only keep you warm and fuzzy for so long. Eventually you will realize the shame in our ways and the millions that have suffered for our two minutes of happiness.

If you get off demonizing what you are to little to understand than you better enjoy your moments of grandeur because they will be short lived.

Just realized all the errors in my previous post, please try to read it for what it is and understand that I could not edit it correctly. Ty

Have a solid government that can protect it's citizens or have a country that couldn't even control it's own citizens that neighboring countries were about to stomp their face.

Man, which one to choose.

It's not BS. And it doesn't take that much intelligence to figure that out, just a willingness to think:

Costing WHO billions? And, just where do you think those billions are GOING? SOMEBODY is GETTING it, SOMEBODY is profiting, war profiteering, is treason.

It's costing those Americans who aren't rich enough to evade paying tax [like me, and probably you] and the money is going to corporations like Haliburton.

Here's a little article that looks like a decent place to start reading: http://www.covenantnews.com/baldwin030328.htm

The business of America is business. I realize that there are people like you in the world that can get by with a library computer, park showers, and soup kitchens. But face the facts, you guys are diamonds in the rough, some of us actually want things of our own, and want to be able to donate money we've earned when we have some extra to give. In a twist of fate, our actions allow diamonds like yourself to do the actions you desire.

What's sad about this post is the trash-talking of your own country. America is one of the youngest on the planet, yet the most innovative
(Americans have invented more life/time/labor-saving devices than all other countries combined),

generous
(Americans donate more to charities and relief agencies than all other countries combined),

militarily secure
(They don't call America the last superpower out of patronization),

and financially prosperous
(America's economy is seventeen times that of the second-largest).

The list of our strengths goes on obviously.

If socialism were so great, and communism being the purest form of socialism, then why are these nations under that structure not the juggernauts they should be?

Finally since you bring up France as the focus of demonization here, you never answered my original reply, which is in regard to the country of France FINANCIALLY RAPING the program that allowed the country of Iraq to buy food/medicine/rebuilding materials by selling a product that Iraq happens to own a lot of. They are quite upstanding indeed.

Even when the German army was mostly in Poland, the French were still too cowardly to put up much of a fight. Just look up the Saar Offensive where the French heavily outnumbered the Germans.

It takes more than losing badly in just one war to be labeled surrender monkeys. That name is earned after thousands of years of military failures and losses . The Complete Military History of France.
