Woot 250GB wd HDD for $54.99 shipped

outpost has maxtor 300gb 16meg cache for 80 shipped. I heard lots of problems with the woot 250s last time. A guy at work got 2 and both were bad and never did get a good one.

I've never had a problem with the drives I got from Woot - i have 5 in various Xboxes and computers around the house.

Besides their return policy is great!

If you ordered the kensington Monitor stand from them in the past - try using the code "wristpadless" for $5 off the price.

You forgot the 'refurb' part.
So very much not worth the risk. I can get new ones for that after rebate if I'm patient, and they're even SATA 8MB.

My first w00t, last hdd ago... Wrong size + took almost a week and a half to get to me. Took another week to get the right one. Not worth the trouble IMO. I'd rather save and get a new sata drive.

Just got in for 3 and got my buddy to order me 3 more!

I am now a member of the TeraByte Club!!!!

I've got a computer that's just itching to be a network file server.
Software RAIDed of course.

It's really not a bad deal. Use them for external storage or backup storage. $55 bucks (shipped and without a REBATE) isn't that bad a deal for such.

Not so sure I trust a refurbed drive to backup my data.

REBATES suck, they basically never come or take ages to come even if you're meticulous in keeping records and sending everything asked for clearly. Never again will I buy a product with a rebate and count on getting it... got screwed over for hundreds of dollars on rebates the last time I had tried them on a few different products, called and followed up and was told to screw off by them repeatedly. This is a sweet price, I got mine a bit ago on the last WOOTOFF and love it, works great and came in properly. It has a 6-month Woot warranty, too.

I've got 4 refurbed 40GB WD PATA drives that have been running for years. YMMV
And at this price you can afford 2 of them and do a RAID 1 mirror - if it makes you feel better.

Also a TRUE backup would be to tape or DVD media.

But who can afford a tape autochanger for home use?

The pundits never recommend using a hard drive for a backup solution.

but with his luck both drives will fail and theres goes his g0at pr0n

:D

"You're not getting a caviar on a silver spoon."

"You're getting a Caviar in a crappy box."

With that labeled and being a refurb... it does make me feel uneasy on whether or not to purchase it.

Also, they show a picture of a silver-top drive (non-FDB) but advertise FDB.
At ~20 cents a gig it's not a bad deal at all, but I'm rather uneasy with the refurb + woot's shipping methods.

Yeah, goat porn. As if it's any of your business to begin with.

Hahaha -

Oh man, someone hit a sore spot there! :-P

As long as it's not a sore spot on the goat as well, I think we'll be ok :-D
