Wolfenstein: The New Order

This better feel more like RTCW, rather than the 2009 Wolfenstein game. I think I played that for about 10 minutes and never went back.

Written version of the Gamespot preview. Another tidbit is the health system. It seems it's using something akin to the Resistance: Fall of Man system. Players have a base health of 100 and it will regenerate only in increments of 20. So say you've taken a beating and are down to 30hp. You will regenerate back to 50hp and will need to find medkits to raise it back to 100hp. This is pretty much the perfect balance between the oldschool medkit system and the regen system. It makes sense. You've been heavily wounded, but if you sit tight in a safe area for a bit you will overcome the shock and regain a bit of composure. You still have a hole in you though so you need to find something to patch it up or you're in big trouble.

Nice health system, dual wield, SP-centered game... I'm sold :) Might be first PC FPS that I'll enjoy since Bioshock 1 was released.

You must be a tough one to please...

I just don't like the way most of FPS games went - "we will focus everything on multiplayer, and SP lovers will get short linear campaign" approach. The PC games also missed iconic characters like MasterChief :) that would make me to play the Halo games, even if they had same problems as PC shooters - but I liked the story.

I enjoyed though the FC3, as it had interesting features like hunting to upgrade gear, different possibilities of attacks, that was something fun.

Other PC games were nothing really memorable. Things with great atmosphere like first Fear, Riddick, Bioshock were only drops in the chalice filled with muppetish CoD clones.

I really need to go back and play Riddick at some point. I'm a big fan of the IP, but never did end up getting into the games.

Are both Butcher Bay and Dark Athena worth playing through, or just the former?

I'm glad it's SP focused. We don't get many of those these days

EfBB is excellent while DA is alright. I bought the DRM-free version from GOG, since I want to play through them back to back at some point. :)

I can agree with you on those points, though you seem to hate current gen SP FPSs like BioShock Infinite as well as others. Do I have the right idea about where you stand?

Well in all truth, bioshock I. from a pure shooter stand point was utterly terrible. the guns were meh nothing really stood out. and the ai was so poor it was embarrassing. but the story and characters were so well done it got glossed over.

I really didn't consider the story of Infinite as great. It was not the hate, it was more of disappointment. First part felt better IMO, but I can understand that people love this game. Same as I love Far Cry 3 :) Besides I was disappointed with lack of aerial combat. I was hoping for something more than riding on rails, when you have floating city and such :) Besides, I'm now having fun with the new "addon" for FC3 :) so I don't hate all FPS games - I'm only against CoD and such games - think what broke camel straw was Modern Warfare 2, with its campaign length.

And even with liking Master Chief and the Halo story, I can't forgive this game for ruining FPS fun by limiting weapons to 2 - after Halo was released, every developer thought it will be "cool" to have same features as that game, as it will give him +10 to success. I miss good old times of Doom 3, when you had as many guns as you could carry, and didn't have to choose between rifle or big badass canon.

WTF is this game

First I heard or saw of this game. So it's a new Wolfenstein game, not made by id Software, and set in the 1960's ? When is it due out ?

Also, whats the deal with Doom 4 ? I thought id has been working on D4 for years now ?

I liked Butcher Bay more to be honest with you, I always find the first iteration is the best, and the sequels are just "OK" at best. Both are definitely worth playing. Check Greenmangaming if you don't have them, as they're running a 20% off voucher code like 99% of the time.

First one was my most prized game on the original Xbox.

/rant
Also fuck the naming of the consoles, Xbox 1 is the third Xbox now, really? What the fuck is the regular Xbox? Just Xbox? Whoever thought of the naming system should be blown up with C4.
/end rant

Is this game running off the Rage engine ? Or the newer Doom 4 engine ? ( Whatever happened to D4 ? )

Doom 4 is reportedly in pretty bad shape at the moment, its development having been scrapped and restarted at least once since it was 'announced' in 2007.

Loved RTCW. But the one from a few years ago sucked, I quit playing it within an hour.

Hopefully this one is good.

I bet they wuss out and not have one ounce of swastika or other Nazi paraphernalia. It'll just be some mediocre cowardly generic wanna-be dystopian future-past totalitarian junta. I want the real deal completely diabolical Hitler dream world. I want to feel like we are up against the masters of evil in the 20th century. If this is supposed to be a "what if" scenario, what are the odds of the devs carrying this out authentically? Ideally this game universe will have no Jews populating it. Black people would have probably been enslaved or eradicated. No communism, liberalism, socialism. No secret societies, no banking cabals or any other conspiring illuminati (umbrella term). Not to mention advances in medicine due to the over whelming amount of "volunteers" to test one over the decades. Also, the consolidation of Soviet and Ally ingenuity and technologies; Spaceflight would be more practical and commonplace perhaps. The Leibensborne program would have propagated their fabled so-called master race. And the world would be generally occupied by tall platinum blonde blue eyed statue people on one end and cute little Japanese people on the other.

None of this awesome, scary, mind boggling and completely, conclusively logical stuff will be in this game. None of it. No one has the balls to do make it or publish it. Most people don't have the balls to even talk about it. Or even care quite frankly. But anyway. It will never be as good (bad) as it could be. Not in this spineless politically correct modernity.

Some new screenshots I saw on gaf. Looks better than what I expected. Some of these environments are great.

Looks fairly decent. Not expecting shock and awe from this but hopefully something good and competent.

As a RTCW fan I am starting to get interested. That last series of screens don't imply the devs will be shying away too much from Nazi horror, or are afraid to touch on the subject. The story might be kind of scary and pretty good. FPS genre is pretty crowded, they need a hook of some kind to elevate it above the pack.

I'm keeping an eye on this one!

These ex-Starbreeze guys did good work with Riddick and the original The Darkness game. Hopefully this is a return to form for them.

With Bethesda making this I'll dif buy this. This releases sometime in 2014, so fallout 4 ~ 2015 :(

Screen shots look great. (Gory) but very high detail. I may have to check this one out

Played it at QuakeCon for quite some time, its a lot of fun. One of the things I noticed right away is how well the weapons sound and the ease of gunplay. Also the game does a good job in making you feel like you are outnumbered and outgunned. Looking forward to getting this when it comes out.

I really get a RTCW mixed w/ Wolfenstein (last game) vibe from the screenshots. My interest has increased as well. :)
