WOL and Standby mode

I have a computer that doesn't seem to be able to go/stay in standby mode with the wake-on-lan (wol) feature enabled in bios. From my research, it is my understanding that only a 'magic packet' could wake a computer from standby mode. I have a wireless router with a 3rd party firmware on it.

1. Could the router be constantly sending this 'magic packet' (or other packets)that keeps waking up the computer?
2. If the router isn't doing it, can other computers on the network be sending packets that are waking up the computer?

Basically, I want to be able to keep this computer connected to the router and also have it be able to enter standby mode.

Any suggestions?
