I have 4 leds that I want to wire in parallel and I know the basics on how I need to solder it but I figured I'd ask if anyone has pics or even tutorials on led wiring to help better visualize what I need to do.

Thx

bump , dammit ;)

i too want to set up a chain of LED's for my harddrive activity lamps.
I've done the bank in a series , but i would like the led's to light up sequentiality,
maybe having 4 or 5 led's on a string.
Perhaps a resistor is in order?

Here's a visual:

When wiring in parallel, you tie the long leads on the LEDs together, and the short leads together. The long leads connect to power, and the short leads connect to ground. You should use a resistor to limit current so as not to damage the LEDs. To calculate the resistor needed, go here:

I think this is what you have in mind:

I have some old pics i'll see if i can post them.

thanks for the info/diagrams, it helps.. but i was actually looking for pics of how people wired their led's in parallel without mounting them on a circuit board, since that is also what I want to do.

Just tie the long leads together, and the short leads together.

Sequentially showing the actual activity level of the hdd? Or just blink down the row every time the hdd led output blinks once?

The first uses a vu meter to measure the hdd led output activity and display it on an led bar at the apropriate level. The second is just an led chaser circuit, but the chaser would go through its cycle so slow you couldn't actually tell if you were getting 35% usage or 99% usage. It would constantly chase down the leds

yes , sequentially
