Wiretap's Home Theater

Tell them overnight air or bust!!
BTW, you are still on my hate list for not providing me the pr0n I DEMANDED!
Until you have it mounted you are on my shit list, BUD!

;)

Do the specifications on the projector tell you how far to mount it from the screen or does this distance just depend on how big your screen is?

Yes, it tells you in the manual. It is something like... mounting it 9 feet to 15 feet for a 80 to 130 inch screen size. I don't recall exactly what it said because I'm not at home. You can probably look it up on Epson's website if you are interested. The projector has zoom and other adjustments, so it gives you a few feet of leeway for mounting.

all the chicks must dig you. . . .

because I sure as hell do

you can always tell if somone is an audio or video guy by the ratio of the cost of the reciever vs the projector (or tv)... you sir, are definately a video guy ;)

i cant wait to see this finished

Sorry, just got back from vacation. The projector mount extension arms came, and the seats should arrive in the near future. Pix will be up later of the projector mounted.

Looks very theatrical so far. Are you going to install screaming kids?

To debunk the myth that the Onkyo TX-SR605 does not support audio output via HDMI, it actually does. :D You have to go in the setup menu on the receiver under hardware setup, then it allows you to turn it on. You can also adjust lipsync, audio delay, power on TV/projector via HDMI signal, etc. It is pretty amazing.

I'll have some pictures up tonight.

You better, or else I will ban you for 2 months, and hax0er your computer and take the pictures and post them here, along with your "other" pictures....

Yea... I work 60hrs a week, so I'm not always home to get pictures. Plus I have tons of other stuff to do such as yard work, dishes, cleaning stuff around the house, making food to eat, running errands, fixing people's computers for them in my 'spare time', etc. I am setting up all the equipment and everything with just myself and my brother.

For the impatient people, here are some crumby pix with just HD cable. I cannot pause the picture to get a good clear shot, so it might look a little blurred. I'll get good clear pictures once the HTPC is built and everything is 'done'. In person, the picture is amazingly clear, and the blacks are as good if not better than my Samsung DLP upstairs. I am really impressed with the picture quality and color of the projector. The video is all running into the receiver, then going via HDMI to the projector.

Ok, don't freak out on me.. Just wanted to know, because you have an awesome setup and there are lots of people really trying to see whats going on. Im not impatient(if you noticed im not the one threating to ban you if you dont show me pics).Done:p

Well i guess i am a little late on this one, but damn that is one nice setup. I live about 2hrs north of you in the thumb. Also sucks that you live in MI because i cant get a plate like that, Great idea... My STi says IGOFAST(2005 STi, Tuns of Upgrades 550WHP) I am actually going to start a project like this in a few months. Hope it turns out as nice as yours.

And this is about the 5th time I'm having to repost things because our server is awesome....

BULK UPDATE (this was all in the past)

------------

Went to IKEA the other day and picked up a nice "Lack" table to set the center channel speaker on. I don't know what else I'll put on it, but it looks nice how it is just plain with the speaker on it. I'm still waiting word on the theater seats and waiting for my newegg order for the HTPC to arrive.

I got the first Newegg shipment today. ^_^

So far I just put in the parts pictured below and did a little wire management. All I'll have to do next is drop in the HDD's, HDDVD-ROM, and processor. I can't wait to fire it up. The rest of the stuff should come by the weekend.

In the first set of pictures I put in some nice craft foam for sound dampening. It was left over from my wiretap-h2o build. :p I also put in a PSU rubber gasket dampener, and similar rubber gaskets for the 120mm fans. I soldered the 3-pin fan connectors onto the fans instead of the 4-pin messy molex connectors. The speed control is still functional, so I'll have them set to medium for very little noise output.

I got the shipment from Vidabox today. (Toshiba HDDVD-ROM and wireless keyboard) Here are the corresponding pictures. It looks good even with the black faceplate, but I was hoping for silver. Its too bad there isn't a bigger selection of HDDVD-ROM devices out there for the PC.

Update..

Got the last newegg shipment, and I'm in the process of installing Vista. ^_^ It looks sexy so far. <3
*The VFD screen says MCE 2005, but I'm putting Vista on the PC obviously. It is only the startup screen of the VFD, I'll change it later on once I get the OS loaded. Oh, and the heatsink fan I put on there is made by Ultra. I won it at the last MPcon LAN Party. I'm putting it to good use. It seems fairly quiet. Tolerable while watching a movie, but not quite as quiet as I'd like it. I'll adjust it in speedfan or something.

LATEST NEWS:

I got the stupid ATI 2600HD sent back to newegg because the drivers and HDCP implementation suck. ATI really needs to get their shit together. I tried them out again, and they failed again. I doubt I'll ever try ATI again. Soooo..... I got the Asus 8600GT silent card, popped it in, and HDDVD's work incredibly awesome with VP2 decoding. CPU usage stays under 20% even on the highest bitrate scenes. It r0x0rz!?! :D I don't have my camera here at home, so I'll have to wait a few days until my brother gets back from vacation with it. Oh, and my theater seats come Thursday 8-23-07, so look for another update soon. :)

Got the home theater seating and just finished setting them up. The quality actually surprised me for how inexpensive they were. They look freaking awesome and go with the red walls and gray carpet perfectly. I have the back row staggered to the side a little bit so the people can see around the row in front of them. I tested it out, and I don't need to build a box to set the rear row on. Pix will be up tomorrow night when my brother brings the camera back from vacation.

'Grats on finally being done with it. From the previous pictures it looks awesome and I'm sure you will be spending countless hours down there with friends as they will want to go over to use your nice setup :D. Can't wait for pictures

how do you like the speakers i was looking at them yesterday really good price but does the quality suffer for that price?

I love them. The quality is on par or better than the Bose and Polk I listened to in the stores I checked out before purchasing. I was very concerned about actually pulling the trigger on the Yambeka's, but they actually lived up to their reviews and lived up to the hype.
What was the cost of the construction contract? Total cost?
I am not going to say exactly what it cost, but just the construction portion without the electrical was about $8,000. Then add in the carpet, electrical service update, electronics, chairs, furniture, etc. If you want to determine a cost for a theater in your basement or living area, the best thing to do is have someone out for an estimate.

Looks good bro.

You've been working on this for awhile obviously:) Good stuff

Wow wiretap, excellent stuff. I wish I could have made my own little home theater this summer, but unlike you I wasn't starting from scratch; I was going to adapt my sunporch.

I was screwed over by lead paint. :(

Update..

The pictures turned out semi-decent, but it really doesn't do justice. This camera freaking blows at white balancing and focusing properly on large areas. Anyway, it should give you a basic idea of what I'm seeing.

And.. I'll add some more later on. Very busy at the moment.

oh my god that is so awesome, i wish u were my dad. i love how u have the pc in the back to.

Damn looks so sweet.... Like you said about building the box for the second teir of seats... I'd do that man and raise them a foot or so... I can tell poeple sitting in the ones in front are going to block the screen... Maybe you can get another row of seats when you can afford too and make the seating 9 or some of those over sized comfy bean bags. Looks sweet as helll and wish I had a basement.

EDIT: Do you have any plans of getting a stand alone HD-DVD player? Or blue ray?

No box.. don't need it. And there really isn't enough room to be comfortable for a 3rd row.

I already have a HDDVD-ROM in the home theater PC, so there would be no need for a standalone player.
