What exactly is Background Intelligent Transfer Service? What does it do? I disabled it in services, but now windows update wants me to reenable it. I'm just curious what's the point? Thanks.

Background Intelligent Transfer Service (BITS) transfers files (downloads or uploads) between a client and server and provides progress information related to the transfers.

And specifically, it's used by WU to grab new updates using low-priority bandwidth.
