Windows XP Prob

I just recently reformmated my computer and updated it and I started having this problem where I would listen to my mp3's and it would start skipping, my whole computer will just start skipping. It's like it's refreshing something. I wanted to know if there is any way I can stop this. When I view task manager my cpu usages will be at 1% then is will jump up to ~30% when it skips then back down to 1%. Thanks in advance for the help.

you didnt say how much ram you got... maybe you're running out of physical memory and the "skip" is the harddrive spinning up?

I have 256 megs, but I don't do anything except surf the web.

check the task manager and look at mem usage when cpu usage jumps. also, look at what program is using it.
