Built this new HTPC rig and everything runs great expect window updates are all goofy.. hangs after reboot when trying to update windows.. Windows 7 SP1 keeps failing to install. I read to mark the recovery partition as active but when I click make active it just does nothing at all like im not even clicking it. Everything else runs like a champ. I installed COD BO2 and gamed for hours without issue. I have updated the bios and I have updated all the drivers that I can find. I am going to run memtest tonight and do a full disk scan (SSD). I am just at a loss. Everything else works fine but these damn updates. I have Windows 8 available but not sure if I should run that on my HTPC.. most seem to prefer win7 for an HTPC when I did some reading. Thanks for any advise guys.. I am truly going nuts!

System Specs

i3 2125
Coolermaster Vortex plus heatsink
Silverstone Sugo SG05 case
Asus P8H77-I mobo
Kingston low profile 1333mhz (ram I found left over from something.. maybe issue?
MSI 7790 video card (issue happened with HD3000 also)
300W Fortron Power supply.
Panasonic bluray drive

All temps are great.. peak 61C in prime 95 and video card peaks 57C ... HELP!

I read to try downloading the file and installing in Safe Mode... I am trying that now..

Also scanning for malware would be recommended.

Most times Wupdates fail it has some tieback to that.

The SURT as Demon linked is helpful also.
