Planning to buy an Apple or Apple-like laptop for a Christmas gift. Wondering if there's any Windows machines out there that are compatible with the latest Mac OSs. The gift recipient is smart but tech averse, wants older Macbook functionality (sockets, drives, cooling). Not sure I can do that in anything but a Windows laptop... or a new Macbook with a lot of adapters added.

The new M1 based macbooks are unbeatable, even for the price. They're faster than i9 with less than 10% power consumption so they run even on passive cooling. Yes, you will need adapters which is the price for having thin laptops.

Agreed. Cobbling together a hackintosh pc is not worth the hassle. And it’s always work.

The M1 13” MacBook Air and MacBook Pro models are both worth every penny. Especially for performance.

You won’t need lots of adapters for a MacBook. They make cheap all in one adapters now that all run off a single usb c.
