The upgrade price ends this month. If you think you might go win8 sometime in the future, nows the time to do it

I upgraded and don't regret it at all. Actually prefer it over Windows 7. Yes there was a learning curve but within an hour of installing it the majority of the nuances were figured out and for me the pros outweighed the cons by a very large margin. To be honest after a week of using it I can't think of a single thing I don't like about it, but that is just me.

You aren't alone. I personally enjoy Windows 8 as well. And as stated above, if you plan to go 8 I suggest doing it now before the price goes up.

Price increase is a scam to try and get alot of people to upgrade in short order.

I'm pretty sure when they announced the cheap price they were pretty clear about it being for only a limited time and even said when it would end.

What make it an upgrade? Sidegrade?

    $30 for a learning curve?

If you don't mind spending 39.99 and don't want to deal with the rebate card, Microsoft has the upgrade until the end of the month:

Microsoft sales have been down. It seems people aren't buying a lot of computers and therefore not buying a lot of windows 8. My opinion is, if you aren't buying or building a new computer. why upgrade an existing one... I'm tempted because if that price.

I do Plan to build a new computer this year when the new Intel Haswell CPUs come out... But this is an upgrade so i don't think I can grab one for that build.

Anyone know if the full version is on sale?

Hmm, I might build a new system this year. And I have an old copy of XP sitting around. Is it not too problematic putting on XP on an SSD then upgrading?

If this works like Windows 7, when you put the disc for 8 in with a blank hard drive, it'll ask you to put in the Window 7 Disk, read it for a bit, then ask you to put in the Windows 8 disk to install it. IIRC that how it worked when I went from Vista to 7....or was that from XP to Vista...Picked it up, I don't plan on installing it anytime soon, just gonna wait and see if it ever becomes viable....

The $15 was an old deal. You missed out.

I did the $15 deal and upgraded as an experiment. After doing a handful of tweak and installing startisback it is working 95% like Windows 7. If you aren't going to use the metro interface then there really is no reason to use Windows 8. With using windows 7 i had maybe 1 BSOD during the entire time I used it. With Windows 8 I am seeing 2-3 a week.

I'm pretty sure this doesn't work for Windows 8. I think you need to install Windows 7 first. I could be wrong, but this was the case when I went to Windows 8. Hopefully there is a work around out now.

No blue screens here, I use start 8 and this thing just feels snappier than windows 7. If you get blu-screens with win 7 or win 8 it is most likely not a fault of the operating system.

I like it. I got the cheap $15 upgrade for my laptop and have a free NFR copy from MS EZ that I want to put on my HTPC but think I'll still get one more for my desktop. I like the start screen and live tiles and apps and I noticed something else upgrade from W7 to 8 Pro; there were some games that would give me the message, "the color scheme has been changed to Windows 7 basic..." That went away with Win 8.

It's a small thing I know, and I did have the desktop compatability disabled for the exe so it did not require a user input in W7 but if the game is minimized I still have the aero features that get disabled in basic mode.

anyone else notice or experience this?

I think the price is low because people are not buying. Windows 8 is not selling well and new PCs are not selling well.

I don't like the interface of Windows 8 and Windows 7 works great so I see no reason to upgrade for an operating system that has recieved less than stellar reviews and suffers from poor market growth.

Hmm might wanna Google the windows 8 sales numbers. Win 8 can easily look like win 7 and be much smoother doing it.

I personally got windows 8 for my main rig (in sig) to see if I could "put up" with the new OS. Surprizingly I like it much more then I thought I would. It's still bone stock with no mods. I think I'll be keeping it installed as well. it just feels a bit snappier then W7 did.

I upgraded last night. I have to tell you, It's really not that bad once you work with it for a little bit. There are annoyances though. I did find one key combo that works really well for us IT people. Windows-X. That gives you a menu to all of the IT specific programs and areas.

Getting a new OS is about moving forward, not backwards.
Doesn't make sense to spend money on a new OS to function and look like the one you already have.

I don't see the value in a OS "feeling" snappier.
I'm about basic function, and Win8 ruined that.

Most people that I've seen try it were frustrated in the first hour of using it, then say their experience improved.
But dd the person come to terms they're stuck with it now, so just make the best of it?

$40 is pretty cheap directly from MS. Rebates on this kind of stuff isn't worth it.

Any prediction on what this will actually sell for when the price goes up next week? Wondering if it's worth to buy a copy to flip on eBay in a couple months...

I just spent the day helping my mother in law learn Windows 7. She came from Vista and has been frustrated learning the new OS and what not. Showing her how to use the UAC, compatibility mode, and just the simple fact of updating programs or why Quickbooks 2007 no longer works right and why she needs to update has all been a huge source of frustration for her.

It took me an hour to wrap my head around Windows 8, but it doesn't ruin basic functionality in any way shape or form. I bought my copy for $9.99 and think it is the best $10.00 I've ever spent on a PC purchase, well besides Planscape, BG, and ID dungeon and dragons series from GoG for $9.99 I think that was a much better deal. :D

You can get it for only $14.99 if you lie about buying a new PC after June 2, 2012. Microsoft does not even check and will just send you a promo code. It has been reported that microsoft has already fixed this loophole months ago but oddly enough it worked for me today.

Wow... it took me a few hours to get Win8 pro installed on my HTPC..
I finally decided to do it and it was just all errors..
I burned at least 8 discs and each one gave me errors during install, I used different brand discs thinking the media was faulty as well.... just kept trying with different discs
I got stupid errors like it needed drivers for my DVD drive which it used to start the installation ?!?!
Two times it told me my key was invalid
I got other errors telling me files were missing from the installation disc

I went back and re-downloaded the ISO again, burned it a few more times and still got errors so i couldn't complete the installation.

I went back again and tried it with using a USB drive for the installation and it worked perfectly the first time with no issues, sort of.

I got through the installation, got updates etc then added my Windows Media Center key to it and restarted and it told me windows wasn't activated and that my windows key was invalid ?! I had to call microsoft and do the whole enter the numbers etc and it finally worked.

What a mess of an installation, I did not have any of these troubles with any other version of windows.

I'm currently in process of getting more updates, so we shall see how it goes from here...

For $9.99, you can't beat it. I just got in on the $15 deal. So I'll give it another try, but this time with the Start Button mod.

Yep, that just worked for me also. Simple.
Went to Newegg, found a Win7 laptop, copied the model number, and the rest was straight forward.
For $15, it worth me trying again. First impression was terrible though.

Weird. I have Win 8 with Media Center on my HTPC and had zero errors. My only problem was getting Flexraid working perfectly but even that wasn't too hard.

I've installed Win 8 a number of times on my 3 machines and it's better NOT to use media. If you download Win 8 and install it over the net then if you do a Refresh or a Reset (like a clean install except zero work) then it just does it automatically. If you install using media then it demands your media be inserted before the refresh works. I really like just clicking a button, walking away and coming back to a 100% fresh install.
