So I built up a new system a few days ago, clean install of Win 7 Pro 64-bit on a new SSD. :D

Then I ran Windows update. Got something like 134 updates the first time I ran it. I figured that this was a big catchup, but I was wrong. I keep running Update and it keeps finding "new" updates. Thing is, many of them are from 2011.

Why didn't Windows install every single outstanding update the first time I ran it.

Any way to identify outstanding updates and force them to be installed?

Because some updates are incremental and require others to be installed first.

One thing you can do is slipstream Service Pack 1 into your install disc. This will take care of a lot of the updates.
