Windows 7 Convenience Rollup

Well shit on me, Hell just froze over... but I don't trust the thing, I honestly don't because it'll (more than likely) have to include every update related to Windows 10 being shoved down our collective throats as well as the retroactive telemetry BS so, I'll do some testing with this in a VM (I'll never trust Microsoft again at face-value, so I now adopt the "Trust, but verify" attitude") and see what happens.

But if it's legit, and actually useful, then kudos for Microsoft for doing it.

We still deserve an actual Service Pack 2 for Windows 7 but it won't happen so this will just have to do (depending on how things work out, that is).

Thanks for the heads up on this, bigdogchris. Kind of odd that it requires me to use Internet Explorer to get the "update" - guess I'll wait till I can find a direct download link as I don't even have IE installed anymore (don't ask).

Funny thing is not 10 hours ago I made a new slipstreamed Windows 7 installation ISO (with every non-Windows 10 and telemetry update through May 15th) using the UpdatePack I've mentioned in the past, go figure. ;)

I was talking about this very issue literally 10 minutes ago with a good customer here at work. I am shocked that they did this. Very happy of course. I've been in pain the last few Windows 7 reinstalls over the updates issue. This is good move from Microsoft.

FYI: This is downloaded through their Update Catalog site, which sucks bawls. Won't work in Firefox and probably not even Edge. Had to resort to IE to get into the damn site. :mad:

Updated post with prerequisite KB.

On a test system, a clean install of Windows 7 Enterprise x86 SP1 with the prerequisite KB and the convenience rollup, leaves me with 31 important updates to install. Windows Update scan time only took about 12 minutes. That's a huge improvement.

You still have to go through a few more rounds of updates after this but it definitely helps out a lot with the big chunk of the first round of updates.

If you do a clean install of 7, this does not install the GWX KB3035583, KB3123862 *

Also, Win 7 telemetry updates 2952664, 3021917, 3068708, 3080149 & 3150513 are not installed.

Do a clean install and hide those 6 updates to avoid all the 10 crap and as long as you do not check "Give me recommended updates the same way I receive important updates" you won't get any of the new versions of the 10 crap with automatic updates.

After testing, still had 56 important updates, 13 optional, and it spun for more than an hour to get me there.
Now this is better than hours and hours with 200+ updates. I was hoping for 1 hour from install to fully patched, and it didn't happen. :(

So you only installed the two required KB's or did you do anything else? Did you enable Microsoft update? I got 31 updates and that was without Microsoft updating enabled.

I did select optional and updates for other products. Probably why I got more than what you did.
 
so, when I click the above link for the catalog, it has only a install button .... but I don't want it to install yet, is there
a way to save it to usb or dvd ?
