In Windows 7 is the authenticated user group supposed to have any rights on the root drive? I noticed on a machine with a clean Windows 7 install nothing is checked off at all under that group. On the same machine the authenticated users group has rights for the D drive. My brain isn't working today.

It has permissions, check the advanced security settings windows. Its all in there.
