80gb drive. no hyber or sleep file. even explorer only shows 38gb used if using drive properties. windows continually shows the drive is 100% utilized in the gui.

The program you're using to display folder sizes doesn't have permission to view everything, hence the discrepancy. It's most likely system restore points or other system files.

not true, treesizefree supports execution with administration permissions as well as elevated approvals. so the app was executed as full admin. Also, the same info was viewable in windows explorer as local machine admin, i just had the app open so i used it for the screenshot. the issue listed in that thread is as you say. however booting my pc to a linux distro reported the smaller size. it was a windows reporting issue.

System restore is disabled and not in use, sleep, hibernation, all disabled. the log files were scanned and deleted. registry repair, defrag, disk cleanup, all completed with no change.

long story short, the fix ended up being the generic windows 10 winsock repair. Unsure exactly how the winsock repair utility had anything to do with a drive reporting issue, but it is windows so a life of unknowns is why i have a job.
