just curious ..were you running any third party anti-virus .. or something other than the built in Windows Defender?

No, but if a virus that is still undetectable by Windows Defender it's an odd one. I have a few other Windows boot partitions on the same PC and they never had this issue. I use the calculator a lot for work and I've never seen this before but there are a number of guides about it and even the uninstall and reinstall for the app in Windows did not work. Not sure what was messed up where but something was stopping it from opening. I'm sure a clean install would have fixed it but all those guides and everything but a clean install did not work. Then simply updating to Windows 11 reset whatever the issue was.
