So after going through three motherboards, two CPUs, two cases, two PSUs, different RAM, SSDs/HDDs/NVMEs, I still get popping/crackling sound with Win 10 Home and current Asus Strix Z390-E motherboard. I've tried updating every possible driver, even bought an eVGA NuAudio sound card, DAC and even happens on my GoXLR, nothing seem to help.

I am using latest win 10 version (win 2004). Latencymon shows everything is okay even after hours of gaming.
examples of this problem:

Also happens in programs like Discord, Steam etc when someone is sending a message or when I am clicking push-to-talk.

Any idea how to finally resolve this?

I know what the sound is, if you're talking about the slight 1 sample "kik" each time you retrigger something.
It's caused by the audio waveform cycle being cut off mid cycle rather than before it reaches zero.

Every time I've heard that sound it's been a USB device or issue.

I have something similar, with the Creative SoundBlaster X7
I have no ideea how to fix it. Already tried to uninstall the drivers ( Safe Mode, as well ) replaced the cable, etc
No go
Any advices, guys ???

I feel like this problem was made worse with the May update but I’m too lazy to prove it and roll back.
But yes, I have the same problem on both an Asus sound card and my Schiit Jotunheim DAC. At first I thought it was a USB latency issue but it appears to be some problem with how windows is handling audio.

It happens both at the very start of an application first playing audio, and at the end if the application looses context/closed.

I gave up trying to fix it because like I said, nothing has changed hardware wise for me and I started noticing this more with the may update. Let us know the results if you roll back. Unfortunately, I doubt we’ll get a fix any time soon.

I'm also observing the same behavior on my Fulla 3 so I believe it's an issue with the Windows 2004 upate and USB sound devices.

I have this same behavior with the system in my sig. I didn't have the issue at all until I moved to Windows 10, so I had figured it was an issue with my older Creative Titanium HD card.

Weird thing is that it's never a system-wide issue, so it might affect only one video I'm playing, or only discord, etc. Usually closing/reopening the app will clear it, but it's an annoyance. It's only affected discord for me once that I can remember.

Guess I won't rush to replace my soundcard.

I was having this same issue with my fiio q1mkii with my pc, changed to schiit modi and it went away. What are your default playback format in the audio settings (16bit 192000hz for example)?
