I know there is a lot of hate around here for Win2012, and Storage spaces. I'm hoping that R2 might change some of that.
Microsoft announced R2 at TechEd today (not that we didn't expect it with the release of 8.1). They've expanded on the storage spaces with some new features:
Three way mirroring is one of the new features. It allows for additional redundancy in your storage spaces.
They also announced tiered storage. Now you can add different types of drives to your storage spaces and assign it to different taks. For example, you can add mechanical and SSD drives to the space, and adjust the SSDs to do caching.
Hopefully the storage spaces has matured a little, as well. I know some people around here had some problem with it.
R2 should be releasing along side of 8.1 this year.
