What the actual fuck?

My wife's computer updated to windows 10 1607 today....

Needless to to say its like she got a virus.

Her background was changed.

Her task bar had new programs pinned (edge, file explorer) and removed pinned programs.

It has now installed a few new programs as well.
-Paid wifi and cellular
-3d maker
-Quick assist

And several setting were re-enabled and programs re-enabled (xbox)

Best part, Windows.old folder 20 gigs.... ffs....

why is this a thing.

The auto update thingie is the item that pisses me off the most. I have spent YEARS reviewing updates and checking compatibility with hardware and software and all of a sudden that concept gets thrown out the window.

I feel your pain and add my own.

Microsoft said future upgrades are going to do better at retaining user settings.

However, I upgraded each version starting at 10240 up to the latest build and I don't remember that much stuff getting reset.

I can't believe people are still surprised by this.

I seriously hope the "I've never experienced that issue when upgrading Windows 10" brigade are taking note of this thread. IMHO Windows update has always been a joke and that's the main reason many used to disable it, but the update process in Windows 10 is bullshit - Treating every user like an idiot and breaking more than it fixes.
