Win 7: Weird picture problem

I had downloaded an rar archive recently with some design drawings and I'm getting some really weird viewing problems. I extracted the files to a folder and the thumbnails display just fine. If I double click to open into windows photo viewer, some pictures will load, some just display black. If i try to switch back and forth from a photo that works and one that doesn't work, the rough image will display with (Loading...), but then it turns to black.

Here's where it gets a bit more weird. A picture that doesn't work:
-WILL display in Windows photo viewer slideshow mode (turns to black on exit)
-WILL display in GIMP, Paint, and Internet Explorer
-will NOT display in Firefox

They're all jpeg images. Any ideas?

Sounds like damaged files perhaps. Tried loading them in Paint and re-saving them?

this should have a similar problem.

I remember an e-mail I received that had a picture where the thumbnail has a ghost but when you open it you’ll have the same scene without the ghost. anyway corrupted pics just re-save them.
