Deport all the illegals out of CA, that should drop the population by about 50%.

But yeah, Desal plants and outlawing sprinklers and fresh water swimming pools could work too. Give anyone who wants it a $1000 tax credit for turning their grass lawn into a rock garden.

I know you can't "outlaw" a swimming pool, but you could make the rich pay a ton of money in taxes to own one. Whats wrong with salt water pool anyway? Saves $ on chlorine!

I live in Washington and vote no on Shatner's plan, get your own water. World is overpopulated anyway and California is probably the worst of it.

There were plenty of treaties that the Settlers/U.S. made with the Native Americans and then broke. There is pretty much a zero percent chance that we legally took all of this land from the natives by their laws.

There were no laws, the natives did not have a civilization like that, and futhermore they did not have a concept of private land ownership.

So, you are trying to say with a straight face that everyone came to the continent by invitation? or are you trying to say that there was noone here?, or better yet, you are trying to imply that the laws of the Native Americans don't count because they were "just savages"? :D

Man, you should read a bit more about actual history... :p

This is a strawman argument. It's a logical fallacy.

The Europeans did not "immigrate" to North America because there was no country to immigrate to. It was colonized or invaded, take your pick. Get your facts straight.

please please please build a wall around california 50ft high and 50ft below ground and put a million cameras within the state so we can televise the dehydration of every person in that worthless state. especially the so called famous people, including shatner.

what we are going to have here in the upper northwest is a mass migration like we have never seen before. oregon and washingtons infrastructure is already crumbling from the weight of the last twenty years of migrants.

the things my 11yr old son is going to have to endure in his life because of this os called land of the free is beyond imagination.

i know i know most dont know what im talking about because your states arent affected yet, yet!

this country needs to put its foot down on immigration into this country and quit letting these welfare and ghetto moms have ten babies each so they can live off of the earned income tax credit of each child. if a person doesnt make a certain amount of money then they should be forced into mandatory abortions. problem solved.

You've clearly demonstrated your worthiness with this post, bravo.

All I know about washington state is from my visit to Seattle over a decade ago. The sun never broke through, because that entire state only gets about 3 days of sunlight every decade. But the air was clear, crystal clear, because no dust particles can form in the land of constant overcast and drizzle and despair.

So what you're saying is you don't know anything about WA weather on the whole. :p

Seattle might often be overcast but in Eastern WA it is often over 100F in the summer and not a cloud in the sky.

I know that desalination has its own environmental risks but it seems that it would cheaper to pursue a combination of more efficient conservation, more efficient recycling, in state capture of rain water and snows, and deals with closer states like Oregon, Arizona, and Nevada for some of their water, in addition to some limited desalination in areas where the environmental impact will be less

Bottom line is that water is a limited resource and everybody (including California) needs to find ways to use it more effectively and not just keep looking for new supplies ... since the poles are breaking off more and more ice due to climate change perhaps they could examine ways of moving some of the polar icebergs closer to the ocean states so they could harvest the water rather than letting it just melt back into the ocean (which might have even worse environmental consequences)

Water is H2O, Hydrogen and Oxygen, two gases that we still have in great abundance and we have no reason to think we won't have enough for as long as we need. Make your water. The day will come when we will need it and have to just make it and there is a way and we'll just have to do it.

The one variable is we need to be a little cautious tampering with the water cycle ... our weather and much of the natural life cycle depends on rainfall and other aspects of the water cycle ... if we start to manually remove too much water from the cycle we do not know its long term effects ... I am not saying we shouldn't do it but we need to do so with caution ... if we mess up our planet's ecological balance we may not have the ability to recover from the mistake ... cities that have removed too much surface water or ground water are already seeing adverse effects to plant and animal life (look at the ecological disaster of the Caspian Sea or the Indus River) ;)

Nah it's fine, experience teaches us we just have to pay for media campaigns denying that is a potential problem.

Maybe it is time to start investing in this technology ... the stillsuits of Dune might be a necessity if we keep going the way we are going

Wait, aren't the hippies in the north already drinking their own urine? I know they are sniffing their own farts...

Figurative drops of water removed from the oceans to the west ...and most of it put back in the oceans to the west. Not going to make a difference.

Immigrants, yes. Illegal, no.

Early immigrants to the U.S. came to a land where there were no established migration laws.

When my great grandparents took the boat over from Ireland, they entered through Ellis island legally. :p

That was after the 'gifted' blankets. Your arguement is shit, being a Native, I don't see how the genocide jusitifies your claims. I have many more examples. Let us ignore the trail of tears, that one is overused and nobody cares if they are in the majority

I guess what I am trying to say is, visit your local res casino. Rent is due.

Almost forgot about the original post. California has a history of bad decisions. Let em wallow in misery. There is no reason to support that kind of corruption.

Here's an original idea, stop living in places that can't support life on their own. If Washington can support the 38 million people living in California, perhaps they should live in Washington.

Side effect of 360 days of warm sunny beautiful weather every year? Not much rain.

Where I live it's overcast 250 days a year and below freezing for 100, but I can drink, shower, and don't have to irrigate the lawn (when it's not frozen).

Time to make some compromises Californians. You will get no sympathy from me, because I have not once in my life received a "Sorry it's snowing" card from you.

Careful what you ask for... Met many Californians? :p

They will just wreck WA too.

What was done to native Americans when the Europeans first settled here through the mid 19th century was awful. No if ands or butts about it.
You know what though? I didn’t do that. My ancestors weren’t even in this country at the time. They were eating potatoes back in Ireland. (and we weren’t here for slavery either, and lived in the north where there wasn’t any Jim Crow!)
I had no part in choosing whether or not to come to this country. My great grandparents made that decision because they were starving in Ireland before my grandparents were even a twinkle in their eyes.
Neither of us have the ability to do anything about what happened generations before our births. Even if my family HAD been in the U.S. during the small pox blanket gifting’s and trail of tears, even if they had done it themselves, I still should feel no guilt for what my ancestors did several generations ago.
I was born in this country just as you were, and don’t belong here any more or less than you do. Now kindly go fuck yourself. Neither mistreatment of natives nor slavery is my fault, or the fault of anyone in my ancestry, and I have no guilt what so ever for it.
Furthermore I am a huge proponent of the fair treatment of todays immigrants.

Sorry, I don’t believe in gambling.
