As title.
DDR5/PCIe 5 is expected to be released in 2021, will TRX40 motherboard live only two CPUs?

Threadripper 3000 and threadripper 4000 and then a motherboard upgrade will be needed?

possibly but not necessarily Ryzen 3000 CPU's still work on non PCIe 4 motherboard, but if you want to use PCIe 5 and DDR 5 ram you obviously would need a new mobo.

On the other hand they did change the mobo after 2 releases for threadripper so who knows.

Honestly if we are buying 1500+ CPUs a new mb on next build is not a problem

The 3960X may be $1,399, but some of the motherboards are upwards of $749.99 or more. I get how expensive the CPU is, but $800 for a motherboard isn't nothing.

yeah probably.. but the one thing the io die does allow is an easier way to implement a dual DDR4/DDR5 memory controller. only problem is pcie 5 and/or ddr5 may require a whole different pin layout but could also be why they made the pin layout change with TRX4 so only time will tell what they plan to do. but i'd expect 2 cpu generations may be the limit for TRX4. that being said though unless you need absolute bleeding edge performance TRX4 seems like a platform that could easily last 3-5 years with it's feature set and performance so depending on what you do and use the system for you may or may not be able to justify the high cost for a limited lifespan socket.
