Hello,

It's been a few years since i've built a system. My motherboard finally quit working and I wanted to know if my old video cards would work in the following motherboards.

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813131363
or
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813131366

I have two "EVGA 640-P2-N821-AR GeForce 8800 GTS 640MB GDDR3 PCI Express Video Cards"

Has anything really changed with video card motherboard compatibility besides a PCI express slot? Is there any other requirements that must be met?

Your cards should run just fine on either board.

However, check for SLI certification on either one to make sure you can run them together (in SLI)

the motherboard situation hasn't advanced to the point you're assuming. Your 8800s aren't so old and in fact they can still be used as Physx cards. So basically any mobo with 2 pci slots will work with your video cards.

The first board will allow you to run them both at X16, the second board will run them both at X8...other than that, either board will work with those cards in SLI

Wait wait wait: Are you planning on using those two cards in SLI or just two seperate cards for multiple monitors or Physx?

If SLI, then none of the mobos you listed will work. If seperate cards for multiple monitors or Physx, either of those mobos will work.

Oh and I'd recommend at least a quality 650W PSU (Antec, Corsair, Seasonic, etc) with at least 48A on the +12V rail. If you see a 650W PSU with less than 48A total on the +12V rail, ditch it.

AMD chipset mobos do not support SLI. However there are AMD socket mobos that support SLI but they have to be using a Nvidia chipset.

So i would have to buy an intel board if I wanted to run both my cards in SLI??
