i have this mobo:
http://www.msi.com.tw/program/products/mainboard/mbd/pro_mbd_detail.php?UID=572

and i'm wondering if this heatsink will fit:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16835118113

Zalman's website says no, and the obvious reason is that the CPU is too close to the graphics card, but the specs say the radius is 54.5mm (diameter of 109mm), and I measure the distance between the middle of my cpu and my graphics card to be about 60mm.

Anyone have an opinion? Is there some other reason it doesnt fit?

Thanks

I have that same heatsink and I think it is fairly large. From the picture of the motherboard, I don't think it will fit. If anything, you can cut a few fins off to make it fit. Losing a few fins won't hurt performance.

you say you have a 92mm zalman? Could you possibly measure it's diameter so I can confirm the listed spec of 109mm?

That would be quite nice.

You don't have an aftermarket cooler fitted to your graphics card like the Zalman ZM80(A/C/D)-HP which would stick off the back of the GPU.

Quote from website "▶ Compatible when not using ZM80(A/C/D)-HP together!"
Just pop off the backplate and fit the Zalman backplate and screw mounts and then only use a small blob (Grain Of Rice) of Artic Silver 5 or similar quality grease right in the center of the CPU and place the 7000 down and tighten in one smooth motion. Don't move it from side to side and don't lift it off to see how the grease has spread, believe me, this is the right way to apply the grease.

Look further down this page (Compatability Guide) and you'll see the Neo Platinum is O.K with the cooler you want. You won't need to modify the fin's at all as it will fit quite nicely.

I had this cooler (7000 Cu LED Version) with my MSI Neo2 Platinum which is a similar design layout and gave that to my old man when I aquired a PCIE GPU and brought the MSI K8N NForce 4 SLI Platinum board instead with the Zalman Cu 7700 cooler.

Now the Zalman Cu 7700 is a big beast that your MB can't handle (120mm Fan).

Buy the 7000 and use the Fan Controller and set it to about 2000RPM and you'll love it.
