Heres a curly one
I have a customer with a Dlink wireless ADSL router that performs perfectly with a Vista laptop.

But on an XP pc, the usb wifi started dropping in and out continually.
My solution was to put in a PCI card. (A brand new decent Linksys).
It found the access point immediately and showed top signal strength (using WZC), and I typed in the key, confidently thinking of my next job on the day's list.
Only to be confounded when the access point dropped from view never to be seen for longer than a second now and then. No matter what I did on the PC. The usb wifi also can no longer see the access point.
I have not yet tried changing the channel on the AP, nor moving the pc to another area.. but will be trying that next.
(I left the PC installing SP3 in desperation).
I powered up a second wireless access point, and this was detected immediately by the Vista pc, but never by the bad XP box.

Note that it has Avast and Knine web protection.. but these should not disappear the AP?!!! :(

It occurs to me that both the usb wifi and the PCI based wifi card ultimately go back through to PCI bus, so it appears there is something wrong at that level.
Any ideas on how to proceed to test this theory?
TIA
