Why no "Processor" section?

Doesn't really bother me, just curious. Would be cool if it was like the "video card" section. Where there is a general area but also a an Nv and Ati. Just seeing a guy ask if he should upgrade to a 3700+ from a 3.6GHz P4. This was in the AMD section. Not many have replied. I suggested not, or at least know why.Love of OC (I change chips like they are underwear) or bored were my examples. We'll see what others say. Would suck if people act like you can't game on a P4 for instance.

The Amd challenge to Intel, in the Intel section. Or perhaps it's in both? Not sure. edit: Yep, it's in both.

Oh well, just thought of one reason for a possible descrepancy. I guess there are some other video chip makers, or so I've heard. :p Oh but then for cpu's there is via!

The general would have some purpose though I suppose. Probably won't change anything but oh well. Just a thought. If it's the history of P4 vrs. AMD threads, I can understand that one. I cringe when I see it as a main subject. There is search, and the mayhem about to ensue becomes obvious. If it said "for the purpose of xxx," well that would work for general, but probably would be more threads like the former. Maybe I answered my own question?

I am guessing, that you are asking why there is not a main forum for CPU's.. with sub-forums by brand name. Similar to video cards. (to clif note it.)

Correct?

Code:
1) CPU
    a) Intel
    b) AMD
2) Vid Cards
    a) NVidia
    b) ATI

The reason for the separation was the constant arguments over who had the better processor. On the old forum, there was a warning about not coming over to the other processor camp and crap on their product....kinda like they are doing in Vid cards these days....hmmm ;)

That was a while ago though, don't we deserve another chance

I'm glad I don't have to deal with Hitachi, Maxtor, Samsung, Seagate, WD subforums. The Disk Storage regulars are pretty well behaved, and besides, I lay the smack down on brand bashing ;) Each of the major makers has a recommended drive in the [thread=873523]Buyer's Guide[/thread], and the drives to avoid are pretty well spread out as well.

It's much the same way with processors. Different processors for different applications. Unfortuantely, we have plenty of passionate people on each side of the aisle, and many believe that their brand is flawless. Thankfully, most [H]'ers simply don't care about [H]ard|Drives, so my job is a lot easier :)

As for "another chance" I don't think it's going to fly. There will be an overzealous few that will ruin it for everybody. The current situation in video cards pretty much proves it.

I was kidding... perhaps a ;) would have been more appropriate. I am quite happy with how things are now.

Personally, I like it this way, the categories subdivided. Even now, there is still bickering between the different sides.
Can't we just all get along. Besides it is the fat cats that get rich...Computer is just for sports, no sense in bickering over toys.

Patrolling and enforcing my idea would take some efford, but there should be an automatic STFU picture and a one-week ban for starting those kinds of threads...

Hell, look in the car forum. Not that often, does Chevrolet Vs Ford come up. It seems the argument fad is ricers.

See the first line in my sig... If only everyone beleived that to be true.

Proaction is vastly preferred over reaction. Changing a forum which has proven in the past to be volitile if mixed just so you could correct the members is counterproductive.....and as Kyle so elegantly stated "no" ;)
