Why must ISPs be so lame in their not even trying to compete to keep me as a customer?

So, currently I have WoW! for internet service.

I have had them for 3 years and of course the pricing has finally risen to the point I am going to switch.

    I am paying a whopping $75 a month for 60/5.

Meanwhile, one of the other providers I have available is Mediacom. I can get 100/10 service for 1 year for $49.99. If I show them my current provider's bill, they will give me an addition $25 off per month.
    So $25 a month + taxes (1TB cap)

    Add
    $10 to go to 200/20 ($35 + taxes) - 2TB cap
    $20 to go to 500/50 ($45 + taxes) - 4TB cap

So I call up WoW! to see if I can get them to lower my bill. Mind you I am nut under any kind of contract and have not ever been under any contract with them.

Nope, they will not budge. The best they can offer me is $76 per month for 1 year for 110/10. That is IF I sign a 1 year agreement with them.

So yeah, they will not even try to keep me as a customer even though I have been in good standing for 3 years with them.

Sure, they don't have data caps, but it is not worth the extra $50 a month to just not have data caps.

Even if I go up to the 200Mb or 500Mb service I will be paying less than what I am paying for my current 60Mb service.

So I will be locked in with Mediacom for a year, but then hopefully Google Fiber will be available at my address and I can switch to them. If not, I'll probably switch back to WoW! to get the new customer rate. So stupid.

Wouldn't it be easier and cheaper for them and better for their bottom line to keep me as a customer and give me a better rate instead of me cancelling and then maybe/maybe never coming back as a customer?

Most ISP's don't care. Whilst it's a different market over there vs here in Aus, much like car insurance. Loyalty basically means nothing anymore for these companies. They may 'help' you in some instances for faults of the service, but when it comes to pricing, etc you won't generally get any type of good/better deals and most won't care if you drop off as a customer.

Shop around for the best bang/buck in your area, always. I guess it's the same as computers too! Staying loyal to a brand/company isn't always the most financially viable no matter how much you try to make it so.

I had Mediacom before I had WoW! at my current location. I switched to WoW!, which was still Knology back them because the pricing/speed was better. Now that ATT fiber and Google Fiber are moving in it seems like Mediacom is at least trying to step up their game while WoW! seems to have adopted we could care less attitude as far as pricing goes.

Be thankful you even have more than 1 provider to choose from, most places in the country don't even have that. I live in LA and can pic either twc/spectrum/whateverthefucktheyarecallednow, or absolute garbage att DSL that gets like 1/6th the speed advertised (maybe 4/.5Mb).

Funny how all these problems go away as soon as google/att fiber comes into town, and suddenly the competitors infrastructure gets updated and prices go down....

Yeah, the only reason WoW! and Mediacom have been increasing their speed is because Google and ATT are both bringing in fiber. Neither will probably be available in my location for at least 6 months or more.

Till then I will be perfectly happy with a 200/20 connection for $35 a month.
