Why I Deleted My Steam Account

Just because there's bottom feeding backwards trash out there doesn't mean the service promotes their agenda, just report to cleanup crew and move on, no reason to quite over it.

The great pussification of America is strong this generation. The other day I heard Overwatch is going to start banning "toxic" players. What the fuck? Trash talk is a way of life in video games, stop getting your panties in a bunch because someone called you out on sucking.
 
What the hell? I don't even think I have ever even posted, or browsed forums on steam for that matter.

I just play games.

I like how the example presented in the article doesn't show the number of members, and the last active discussion was in 2015 with 3 replies. Meaning this guy had to do a deep search to find the thing that would offend him.

The other example given has 40 members. Steam has over 125 million active users, with over 10 million concurrent users at any given time. This isn't even a drop in a bucket.

Well, I don't find them because for one I don't look for them. Not sure how it's a surprise they exist. It might be a safer bet to cut them some slack as racism doesn't go away like that. They get banned and harbor even more hate and then it spills out in something much worse than a dumb forum post. Just because everything gets censored up the wazoo doesn't fix the problem at the root. The problem is a bit one and not new but a way to start fixing it is to educate yourself and your kids and learn from history (apparently this keep failing over and over again).

I just buy games on Steam. I've never used any of their forums or communities.

People in gaming communities tend to just be asshats and spoiled brats anyway, and I have little desire to socialize with them :p

When I first got PUBG, I set it up the way I liked and joined a game. On the island in the beginning I heard all the asshats mic-spamming. I immediately hit ESC, and found how to disable voice com in the menu, and haven't turned it back on since. Much better :p

With as many users as Steam has moderating it properly would be a monumental task requiring many employees, which would just drive up the cost of games.

Boycotting the social elements of Steam may make sense, but cutting yourself off from the predominant source of games seems silly.

That being said, I wouldn't be upset if Steam were to just shut down all forums and groups all together. We don't need that kind of asshattery.
 
Seriously, people like this are those that have like 30 background apps running on their computer and then complain about it running slow.

Him deleting his steam account confirms to me that he, like many SJW "journalists" are not gamers at all. They have infiltrated another hobby to push their bullshit that is not wanted or needed.

Steam allegedly made $3.5B in revenues 2016 and Valve (steam's owner) is a private company essentially owned by 1 guy who employs only 360 people. They might have not known about those racist groups and they're just cleaning them up now. "damage control" would be people willing to boycott steam en masse or shareholders freaking out. Neither of which is happening and even if it were, Gabe is still laughing his way to the bank.

Turn off your computers, smartphones, televisions, and radios. Cancel your magazine and newspaper subscriptions. Sound-proof your home, board up your windows, and lock your doors. Once you THINK you have totally isolated yourself from the real world, then find a way to nuke yourself from orbit...it's the only way to be sure.

Otherwise, go about your day with your big kid undies on.
 
People on Steam have no life and if they play games all day are probably lazy don't worry they won't harm anyone.

I wouldn't mind if both went away. There are some of us a lot closer to the middle that are tired of all of this nonsense. Sanity, reason and logic may still be present in some people but the extremists make so much noise that sometimes it's easy to forget that reasonable people still exist. Fortunately it seems as though people are getting tired of their crap and/or able to see through it.
