"stumbled" and "other"

other: no freaking clue. basically its all relic's fault.

oh, and u_m... that's what you think. heh, i started folding at least a year before that.

the black knight always triumphs!

i saw the [H]ard folding badge and clicked on it to see what it was and it all started from there

I originally started 5 years ago or so then quit. I started again last year with just my box...then I borged the kids boxen...then my moms...my sisters...then I started building a farm. I tried to count up the ghz the other night and gave up at somewhere around 70ghz now running in my house with another 20ghz inc over the next few weeks.

after having questions about a video card a while back and was kinda bored and checking out the different forums (for like the 10th time) and finally decided to take the 20 seconds or so to actually find out what this 'folding' thing was. It sounded pretty cool, my aunt had recently died of ovarian cancer. i got a 2nd box for cheap and then the points thing got me hooked and i built up a small farm. i hope to have that farm back up pretty soon... but my hours are gettin cut down :(

Well a while ago Mr Rngs and I were quite close, then a few F/Rs happened and summer, but RagingSamster will soon be back on the up side of folding (like tonight when I get home)

I remember the back and forth we used to have and that was fun. Just another one of the things that keeps us going.

I look forward to seeing you up and running again at full strength. Hopefully you'll be able to pick up a bit more than you have and make a run for me. I know the gap is a bit large, but it can be done. I'm looking to not be able to add anything more for a while (and actually lose a little) so you'll have a chance. Just make sure it's before Spring. I plan on adding an X2 overclocked by then. That will probably get close to doubling my current production. I really need to find some more parts so I can bring up more "file servers".

Musta been something on the front page, since I actually started folding for another team when I saw it on their site first...Still have my old lappy folding for them too, but if you look at my Folding stats you can tell where my points lie :).

Ah I see it as a benefit to society. So I might as well do it. I used to do SETI too but, their program wreacked havoc on my old system.

I used the forums all the time for Case mods, and hardware discussinos and stuff. Then I clicked a badge, and read into it, and here I am... Haven't been back in those forums much lately. Definitely not the same kinda family feeling. I love you guys! *sniff*

I felt as though I have a very powerful processor, and all those cycles go to waste.

My alarm clock isn't very loud. Well actually it is, but I sleep like a log and I will sleep through anything. So no alarm clock will wake me up. The only thing that will work is to leave my PC on and use a software alarm clock and turn my speakers up. This will wake me up, but it involves my PC just idling for HOURS every night. Seems like a waste no?

I just installed F@H as a service, don't even notice it's running. Does not even interfere with gaming or anything. Easiest thing ever to do.

Viper is the reason that I'm here; I saw the contests, and wanted to win so I started b0rging. Since then I've realized what an amazing project F@H is, and have pursued it with the hopes that cures for the big bads (such as though afflicting my step-sister) are found through the project.

After having the [H] as my home page for several yrs, and finally joining the forums in 2000...ummm.....fast forward to 2003. Decided to click a link that kyle and steve posted all the time and figured it was better than seti (I already know about the aliens...they ain't talkin).
My grandpa died of cancer when I was 15, and my grandma followed 5 yrs later from alzheimers.....and I'll be damned if I don't do my part to save my 5 yr old son from having to endure these tragedies.

Oh yeah...the points and competition make it fun as well.

I saw a thread on [H]ardocp's site asking for people to join. Looked into what folding does and who benifits and thought it was cool (yes I old enough to say cool). I set up my gaming system, my sons computer and my HTPC. Later I even added my 2 laptops when they are in the house.

I used to run UD for team 3DGameman, but finally I got fed up with UD's servers going down awhile ago (they seriously hit a rough patch, seemed to be spotty constantly). So I was familiar with folding from that and its benefits. I've been browsing the [H] for some years now, ventured into the forms a few times, and started coming in here. I was drawn in to the forum by the community, drawn into the F@H for team 33 based upon the loved ones of some people here who either passed or were afflicted by some of the most horrible plagues mankind has ever known.

I have always had a sort of belief in a higher power (that has become better defined as the years progress), but I've always been a believer in the theory that in order for God to help you, you must help yourselves first. That's why I'm here. I'm going to do all I reasonably can to help those I care about and those others care about, and leave the rest up to God.

I came for the friends, stayed and started for the love. We beat the roos into submission (at least temporarily), by God, we can knock out cancer too. From there...who knows. One step at a time I guess.

I used the [H]ard|Forum extensively when looking for a new motherboard, case, etc. and happened across the distributed computing forum. I checked out Stanford and began folding and recruiting and borging.

I started folding back in the day when I liked the [H].... That "stage" has long since passed and now I only continue because I find it a waste to just let my computer sit there...idling... I stick with this team only because there was once a time when I enjoyed these forums. I don't contribute enough to make a difference, anyway. See you on IRC.

I think that maybe you should give us another try. Things are going to be markedly different around here.
:)

Used to fold quite a bit back in the day for the 2CPU.com team. Got rid of all those duallys and quit folding at the same time. Now I've got a job that has quite a few computers laying around. I make the users leave the computers on at night for updates and virus scan and whatnot and I thought it'd be nice if they were doing somehting while they were on at night. Here we are.

Other.

Because at my old/other forum, sfftech.com, I was folding there. Then I became a member here, at the time where we where trying to pull ahead of OCAU. So I joined the team.

For me it was definitely Relic's fault.

QFT FTW. Rack another Folder up to relic.

Where is the old man, anyway? I miss him.

I myself was involved with the distributed.net rc5 programs, and I do saw that rc5-64 was done, that was cool!

Then rc5-72 shows up and its like a bajilion years to get anywhere on it. Im like this is fucking stupid, and gets us nowhere. Being a lurker on the Hard Forum I tried out Folding for team 33 and the rest can be summed up as addiction..

Fold on!

Hmmm.... I'm late...can you... uh ... point me to that beer ...
:D

Other... I've always been a forum lurker... heck didn't even join the forum for almost a year after I started folding for 33. I started folding cause I was familar with DC programs. Cancer and Parkinsons runs in the family and I'm pretty sure I have early stages of Parkinsons, RIP Grandpa.

IIRC when you started you used to make a lot of cool graphs to chart your progress. :D

Yes, I was totally addicted! You and other [H]ard Folders were an inspiration!

During the first year of folding the secretary in my office was diagnosed with cancer and a little over one year ago was taken by that nasty disease. That re-inspired me to fold.

One thing those graphs told me was that it was progressively more difficult to get into the top 20. Indeed, after much cpu time devoted to folding, I'm still struggling to stay in the top 30. While I fold for the cure, I love the points, gentle competition, and being part of the [H]orde.

Fold on!

i joined because my Father who has diabetes, and has undergone a quintuple bypass sparked a need to learn just where we are regarding cures for dieseases that not only cut lives short, but place limitations on lives that have been incredibly impactful on those who know and love them.

diabetes has made my fathers cardiac issues incredibly difficult, and limit medical treatment(s). because of my father, i have grown to beleive that you do what you can, and the best you can so it seems only fitting that i take my interest in computers and technology, and apply it toward finding cures.

i have lost 3 relatives to cancer in the last 5 years, and my grandfather to [size=-1]Alzhiemers, and Parkinsons. lastly i read that the phameceutical industry spends more on advertising for Botox and Viagra than in research for an Alzhiemer's cure.

it's personal, and it is important.

I became interested because of the community aspect - seemed like you guys were having fun and I wanted to be a part of it. After I did some research and acquired a better understanding of what it's all about, I wanted to join because of my grandmother, who has parkinson's and alzheimer's. She's been in a nursing home for a long time, and I've never even gone to visit - the last time I saw her she couldn't remember me. It makes me feel good that while I'm farting around, at least my boxen are doing something worthwhile.

Community FTW!

I spent 24 years in a collaborative effort, lost that, found this three-ring circus was the closest thing to what I'd lost and got caught up in the Folding racket. Heck, I've been running this since it was Genome@Home. Toss in UD now and then, mix in the loss of some relatives to Altzheimers, cancer and diabetes, and you've got the reason I keep pounding away at this despite the fiscal irresponsibility of $350 power bills.

Yeah, I'm nutz. In this crowd, this is a problem how? :D

I call being "crazy cat lady" except male.

"Crazy Cat Lady" nutzoid. Takes in stray computers, feeds them, they lie about doing little visible work, their numbers increase, costs escalate.

The only point the similarity breaks, is that I don't have to haul out cubic yards of catshit and kitty litter.

Works for me! :D

other:

just my philosophy concerning technology and communications, specifically in the area of computing. Distributed computing and networks is just simply the ideal solution to so many problems concerning money and resources that it makes sense.

Quite frankly, I'd like to live in a world where we all contribute what we can to an effort for the common good, and with distributed computing it is too easy not to.

Not to mention the new windows auto service build rocks the house, and big shout out to the IPcop addon author! Went from 1 processor to 4 in minues :p
