I think the Surface pro made from Magnesium is one sexy machine, but I really want a tactile full keyboard. It also doesnt seem to be shipping anytime this week anywhere I can find. So the 700T with a 256GB SSD or the Sony Vaio Duo since I really need a digitizer with a pen. Hopefully it will work well and I will have one friday.

frys has the acer w510 64gb version.

how much space does win8 take up?. I'm curious if I were to get the 32gb version, how much storage would I actually have. also, if your browsing a website in metro mode IE, and you want to hover over something, say a picture that brings up a menu, how does this work on a touch screen?

Right now most of the win 8 tablets are way too heavy for their size.

Depends on which ones. If you are talking the Hybrid Tablets they are right where they should be. Most of the Hybrids are ultrabook equivalent in weight. The hybrids are both tablets and laptops I dont see how much lighter than can go.

The Samsung Ativ Pro is only about 7 ounces heavier than the current gen iPad. That's essentially setting an ultrabook for only 7 ounces more, that's pretty amazing in a way.

How do games work on the win 8 tabs? Like my old version of Madden 08 that I play on my Win 7 desktop?

Maybe I am over analyzing this, but it seems like I would think I could load the same apps on the win 8 tab as I do on the win 7 desktop machine..

I decided to cancel my new egg order. I am going to go brick and mortar store hopping tomorrow to see if I can grab one, if I cannot I will just order from amazon on Saturday and probably still get it on Monday.

All of the Core tablets have Intel HD 4000 graphics which is decent for gaming, Madden 08 should work ok.

I think as long as you are not getting an RT device all your old games will work granted it might not play games at Hi-Res and at really high settings for games that I play like RTS most of them will run fine.

Does anyone have a legit review of the Samsung Smart PC Pro (which is also the ATIV, or Series 8, or 700T, or god knows what else. Fix your naming scheme Samsung)? All of the "reviews" I have seen are just people looking at it from trade shows.

    http://www.samsung.com/us/computer/tablet-pcs/XE700T1C-A01US

Amazon says it releases tomorrow, yet I don't see a single in-depth review, which seems strange. I figured they would send out review units.

There's some videos on YouTube but no in depth stuff except on Russian review, looks like no one has it yet.

But I also assume that to play them ona tablet that is touch screen, I could simply buy a dock and a bluetooth keyboard and I could then play most of those games without issue?

    Hypothetically anyway?

Absolutely, I've down this with my Samsung Series 7 from last year and it plays certain games with only the HD 3000. Certainly NOT a gaming machine but older engines like Source with medium setting should play just fine.

I like the device, just no pen which I think is a big deal with x86 tablets.

Great answer because now I have to ask why is a Pen a big necessity for win 8 tabs?

I ask only because I have had android and Ipad tabs, so never used a pen before.

I'll stick with my iPad 3 for another year and see where Windows 8 goes. I am really hoping it takes off though on the tablet side . As much as I love my iPad, how locked down it is really irks me.

Tried out my friend's 11.6'' MBA today and it felt a little small for a laptop.

    Why can't Asus's 13'' transformer book have a digitizer or Samsung's 11'' 700T be around 13'' :(

And it looks like almost all major manufacturers have more or less announced/released their Windows 8 lineup so I don't think there'll be one that fits the 13'' + digitizer area.

Pens are great for note taking (especially for scientific and mathematical purposes), digital art and they can help out a great deal in navigation the Windows desktop and applications which can be difficult with touch. Also, the Windows onscreen keyboard supports handwriting to text as a method of input across all applications, both desktop and Metro and as a long time Windows Tablet PC user I much prefer that method of text entry over an onscreen keyboard.

Not something everyone wants or needs but pens are a pretty popular accessory for iPads these days.

During the days of XP Tablet PC edition, a few models of convertible tablets came out in the 13" to 14" size but they didn't sell well at all. 11.6" is workable for me, 12" to 13" would be the sweet spot for a full time laptop device and I would imagine that there will be devices like that coming out. This really is only the beginning for Windows 8 hardware, there's just going to be so many choices in the coming months.

I'll be buying one but going to wait until there is one with LTE support. I didn't see any of the ones coming out having LTE.

Looks like it might be a long wait still for that, but atleast by that time Tegra 4 will be out too:D

I wonder how hard it would be to take one of these tablets apart and replace the ssd inside with a larger one. charging $100 extra for 64gb of storage is lame.

That's a statement that you can take to the bank. Make no mistake, Microsoft is going to do whatever it takes to get devs fleshing out their store. Microsoft has the money, and there's simply too much riding on it.

Exactly, and this is actually something that Microsoft is quite good at, attracting developers and partners. And what do those developers and partners have to lose? A market of hundreds millions of consumers to buy their products? Some of the Windows 8 naysaying simply isn’t looking at reality. Microsoft really has no option but to do whatever it takes to get the Windows Store flowing and they clearly understand that.

http://www.anandtech.com/show/6385/microsoft-surface-review/6 Anandtech's review of the Microsoft Surface which is running RT shows about 7GB used for a fresh install. Running Windows 8 on my home PC, installed since July 25 my Windows directory is 14.1GB on disk and Program Files+Program Files(x86) is a combined 545 MB. So you're probably looking somewhere between the two. Can't answer your second question, as I haven't had the chance to play with Windows 8 on touch hardware yet.

The Windows RT review on Anand has confirmed that RT is a very much a viable and solid OS for the vast majority of users. Interesting times ahead...and all good for the consumer.

This really sucks. They should just have a business version or a "corporate unlock" you can buy. My company's not on a subscription service with Office, and I don't think we have any plans to upgrade to Office 2013 from Office 2010 in the near future, so it looks like we'd have to shell out significantly more money to license RT tablets for corporate use...and with no additional functionality (the ability to add Outlook would be huge). Anyone have a clue what the cheapest way would be to get Office RT licensed for corporate use?

A Windows RT corporate version with the ability to join Active Directory domains and a corporate-licensed version of Office that included Outlook would be awesome. Even at a couple hundred dollars over the comparable Windows RT tablets, they'd be the perfect corporate tablet.

I just chatted with Amazon customer service and they said my 700T would ship today, so my guess is that they simply ran out of stock to ship today.

Testing out a surface at work and its defiantly not ready or at least the RT for a corporate environment.
