To be fair to the vice president (and politicians in general) you could remove "violent media" from his statement and insert literally anything and he would still support it. :D

Media and entertainment that portray violence should be subject to a special tax. Biden replied that there was "no restriction on the ability to do that; there's no legal reason why they couldn't" place a tax on violent media, Sister Marjorie Clark told Politico.

"Media and entertainment that portray violence should be subject to a special tax"

Is it safe to assume this tax would apply to news coverage of whatever country we're killing the locals (aka freedom export) to gain/maintain access and rock-bottom prices re: their resources?

I'd have a lot more respect (well, some, anyway) for government if they'd just stop $#@! lying to us.
I.E. "They have oil. We need oil. The bombing starts Monday. Any questions?"

there's no legal reason why we can't tax our population back to the stone age
if they didn't want to be taxed like this they'd have voted in representatives who would NOT vote for them right???

who would pay the tax on the violent media?
the producers? (nah they are the ones making the $ right now, they are never gonna pay this)
the distributors? (they usually get the shaft with sales tax, etc... so maybe)
the consumers? (almost always get the brunt of all price increases, tax, etc... so why not raise prices)

There are reasons. It's discriminatory and shows the filthy collectivist underbelly of grey area 1st Amendment work arounds.

I'd like these goons thrown out of office.

Since there is no shortage of terrible ideas, I propose that we legalize most drugs and put a special tax on them.

Once upon a time a group of people got together and threw a bunch of tea in the Boston Harbor for a lot less than what is going on today...

Omg, hypocrite much? Our government is a pain factory.

How far we have come, from 13 colonies united against government tyranny and government intervention, to a police state that wants to profit from monitoring and controlling our behavior no matter how innocuous that behavior truly is.

The forefathers ARE rolling in their fucking graves. A glimpse of this future would have been like a knife in their heart, against everything they stood for.

Filthy scum spending like there's no tomorrow, so they're looking for more sources of income instead of staying within a budget. Not surprising.

I see no reason not to tax non-violent media. There is no restriction on the ability to do that; there's no legal reason why they couldn't.

I swear parts of Demolition Man were prophetic. At this point I am waiting for the law makers to introduce their version of the Verbal Morality Statute.

Heh

Fucking amazes me pollution, er, I mean politicians are more willing to go after the first amendment then the second

hey Biden, go suck a big one

Suck a bag of dicks is today's sentence :)

As for this proposal, I say no. They already tax us a bajillion ways. We're taxed on money we make, we're taxed on money we spend, we're taxed additionally on certain things we buy .. nickle and dime.

I'm still all for congress not getting paid (ie: money goes into escrow) until they do their job and pass a damn budget.

 So if you had to choose 2 people to attack, would you choose the person that speaks loudly or carries a big gun?

This administration feels there is little they can't do. They are empowered by the ignorance of the citizenry.

Bang, nail meet hammer.

Who is going to be the judge of "violent media"

Just another infringement upon the constitution.

If that happens, I'm fucking screwed.

DiabloRojo, you are fined one credit for a violation of the Verbal Morality statute.

Ah damnit, this sucks ass!

DiabloRojo, you are fined five credits for repeated violations of the Verbal Morality statute.

To be fair, Biden never said there's no reason not to tax violent media, as the title suggests. He said there isn't anything to stop them from doing so.

Is he still a useless goon? Sure. But there's no indication yet that this is a direction they're looking to take.

Cause its such a good Idea to tax Violent Media.. Are they gonna tax the News, Tax Movies, Books???

This is in clear Violation of the First Amendment Right to Free Speech.

Did he literally say the words outright? No, but he replied to someone asking if they could/should tax violent media that "there's no reason we couldn't do that", which implies that he's interested in doing so.

Oh, and he additionally said, and I quote from the original source:

Biden told the religious leaders that he would like to see a comprehensive study of the impact that violent video games and movies has on developing brains.

They have not made a budget to stay within...and yes, that in itself is a constitutional violation.

What they are really saying:

"Its a good idea to tax everything more, we just need to figure out how to do it so people think its a good thing and willingly give their money for the common good".

In other words, Socialism.

Maybe an implication; maybe not. Time will tell.

I see no reason to flip out. Flip out when specific legislation starts flying around.

Can you imagine, Barry gets impeached (fat chance) and we have Biden proclaiming Tax Them All, what ever them made send it in. Mine Mine Mine.

Or we could have the opposite demanding mspecial rights for white Protestant males only and enacting strict puritanical laws on the populace, effectively making women and non-whites into secnd-class citizens worth, oh, about three fifths of a white male.

Like it or not, the leadership we have is infinitely better than the alternative, and infinitely times better than the alternative to that. Can you imagine that psychotic extremist Ron Paul or his fundie kid running this country? We'd all be dead.

Wow, I don't think I've seen such a gross mischaracterization of the facts, ever...

I say preventive measures.. Like the comedian said one time in a skit between two people about to fight " You even dream of hitting, you better wake up and apologize." They even think this crazy shit up, we should give them quite a wake up!

way to discriminate Biden, what a asshat. I propose a special politican tax paid by elected @ 50% tax on their wage to combat stupidity but then again that won't be enough.

I predict that not only will the supreme court ok this, these scumbags will get voted in for another round because too many people are too lazy to do anything about it.

My credentials? I watched what happened in the 2012 elections :\

Biden met behind closed doors with 20 representatives from faith-based organizations to discuss gun control and immigration... proposed to Biden that "media and entertainment that portray violence should be subject to a special tax.

Later...

Biden met behind closed doors with 20 representatives from media conglomerates to discuss faith based nutjobs, it was proposed to Biden to fuck them where the sun don't shine.
