Which State Is Torrenting The Most

Wow, Ohio torrents a lot more than I would have expected. I figured California would have been higher up than that.

ROFL. Delaware loves their Goat Simulator!

Isn't it a Steam game? You can pirate Steam games? I've been out of it for a while, I guess.... I bought Goat Simulator on sale. :) Well worth the money for the laughs.

Oh look, another one.

Here's an idea. What if they have a reverse class action suit. Instead of paying everyone a nickel why not collect a nickel from all the pirates.

Florida and Washington state seem to love torrents the most.

In 2009, when you looked at who paid for the most online porn, the redder the state, the more porn they bought. But that was a long time ago by Internet standards, and who pays for porn these days?

When you look at pages viewed per capita on pornhub, blue states viewed more pages per capita than red states, but not very many more (a 13% difference). When you look at average visit duration by state on pornhub, red states are watching porn for a longer period of time. Putting those two together - red states view fewer pages but take longer to view them - seems more like evidence of Internet bandwidth issues than evidence of who is watching more porn.

Hah! AZ is in for NFS Most Wanted and Tokarev for the movie. Might just want to stay the hell out of AZ. :p

Everybody says "Don't mess with Texas." Heh, pussies.

Watch Dogs is the most pirated game out of all the states. Ubisoft is doing a great job with uPlay.

lol, the Game of Thrones states look almost like a list of Red states. I guess those who hate government like watching how bad it can be.

There's so much porn it's probably hard to track. More porn clips gets recorded than games / tv shows in a year.

So much of it streams freely on demand that it's not even worth downloading for many these days.

If you lived in a place as boring as Ohio, you'd look for entertainment wherever you could find it too.
Well that and wages suck, so media costs are higher as a percentage of income than in some place like CA.

Seriously CT, The 100? I feel so dirty now that my state has such despicable taste. And apparently, they don't even torrent that much.

Wish they would revisit how much bandwidth the White House systems dedicated to porn. I remember years ago, during the Clinton admin, they did an audit and found something like 60%.

I don't know how accurate all this is when a lot of people are using vpn's.

My first thought when I saw this article. I would think more than a few people are torrenting through proxies, vpns, encrypting the traffic, peer blocking and using other ways that hide their true ip address.

On this map
Top middle (Minnesota). Someone has ambitions....

And the states to the west are scared and preparing for doom, east is studying up on how to be heroes...

those floridians just don't give a fuck. They pirate a lot of everything.

and where's the porn? Porn takes up half the bandwidth

Ok just for shits and giggles I clicked on one of the Captain America movie torrents, and there's 0.01 per 10,000 in California... so basically 38 people are torrenting it in the entire fucking state.. yeah we totally have a piracy problem that needs new laws and penalties and removal of liberties to occur!

Except that makes no sense. Iowa is much more boring, same with the Dakotas, yet there's less pirating going on in those 3 states, and they also get paid on average less than Ohio.

I was just in Iowa... not surprising if folks there don't know how to torrent.

It actually makes plenty of sense when you consider the folks in IA, SD, and ND don't have the internet connectivity to torrent effectively...
There's a far greater proportion of people in urban areas with decent internet in OH compared to IA, SD or ND.

Also ND is ballin' with that Bakken shale oil boom...

What the hell is "Witching and Bitching" ? Also, I like how the states that have no threat of getting attacked by Godzilla are the ones that are downloading it illegally.

So, basically .05% of the population is pirating via torrent, and the RIAA and MPAA get to act like it's the end of the world. I will leap with gladness if I see the day where big, centralized media ceases to exist.

My first thought was that it was going to be states with generally slow internet that would pirate more, since streaming quality would suffer, but I was wrong.

It's actually hard to see a correlation. I'd be interested to see piracy compared to red/blue states. Do liberals think more entitled--->socialist--->communist--->no intellectual property? Do conservatives (who often live in more rural areas) have poor access to content via physical means so they go download it?

Another conclusion one might draw is that Republicans can keep it up longer. :-P
