Hello,

I am working on a new 6700k build and both of the below set of sticks are on my motherboards supported list. Which are better? Timing vs Hz?

G.SKILL Ripjaws V Series DDR4 3200
Model F4-3200C16D-16GVK
Timing 16-16-16-36

G.SKILL TridentZ Series DDR4 3000
Model F4-3000C15D-16GTZ
Timing 15-15-15-35

Mathematically, they look the same (I think), so does it really come down to which heat sink looks nicer to me? Both have 'tight' timings.

1 / Frequency * CAS
(1/1600) * 16 = 0.01 == 10
(1/1500) * 15 = 0.01 == 10

And to be quite honest, I am considering F4-2133C15D-16GVR over both of the above for price / performance. (G.Skill 2133 Timing: 15-15-15-35). If I don't OC the above, the slower one actually comes out ahead on price and performance.

Thanks.

Forget the stats you are looking at, if you want to know which ones are more likely to hit the rated speed it is going to be the 3200mhz chips

In fact I would suggest you get the Tridentz 3200mhz set.

I second Zanixx. And the 3200 TridentZ are actually 5 dollars cheaper than the 3000.

Thanks for the advice. I am looking at F4-3200C16D-16GTZ

Reviews also all said XMP worked fine and no mention of people having to up the power to them to get it to work.

Thanks. I think those may be the ones I go with.

Also confirm that the RAM is compatible with your motherboard...there have been some select issues with certain RAM and 6700 boards/systems. It seems the ASUS boards can get picky with some brands.

Yep, I did. Thanks for the reminder though.

I've got the Gigabyte Z170x Gaming 7 board with the 6700K (Sitting on my desk waiting for xmas)

I would go with the Ripjaws 3200mhz, you could always try and tighten up the timings a little more and see if your lucky.

If you are OCing, isnt it easier/more likely to increase the speed vs tighten the timings?

I am in the same boat, but i am looking at these with the same GA-z170x Gaming 7.

F4-3200C16D-16GTZ (16-16-16-36).

I believe it is easier to loosen the timings, then tighten the timings to overclock.
