Seems like the Samsung 960 Evo/Pro are the fastest NVMe drives out there BUT they been out of stock since release date (Dec 2016). From all the retailers there no word when they will be available, and the few sellers that are selling them are charging a premium. I am building a new rig I need suggestions on alternatives NVme drives that will perform as close to the 960 Series.I know that the OEM version s of each drive SM961 / PM961 are available, but have no clue if they would be covered under warranty like the retail version are. Specs are:

Samsung 960 Evo (500gb/1TB)
R:3200 Mb/s
W:1900 Mb/s
IOPS: 380K/360K

Samsung 960 Pro (512gb/1TB)
R:
3500 Mb/s
W: 2100 Mb/s
IOPS:
440K/360K

Corsair MP500 (480gb)

R:2800~3000 Mb/s
W: 1500~2400 Mb/s
IOPS:
250K/210K

OCZ RD400 (512gb)
R: 2600 Mb/s
W: 1500 Mb/s
IOPS:
190K/120K

INTEL SSD 600p (512gb/1TB)
R:
1775 Mb/s
W: 560 Mb/s
IOPS:
128K/128K

PLEXTOR M8Pe (512gb/1TB)
R:
2500 Mb/s
W: 1400 Mb/s
IOPS:
280K/240K

The Samsung 960 series are obviously the fastest of the pack, but no go since they are not available, seems like the Corair would be the next bet (prime/performance)? Any thoughts/suggestion? Would it be a noticeable speed difference between the two for every day applications?

I'd get the one with the best warranty since anything faster than 550MB/s for read and write (top end SATA III SSD speed) is wasted on game load times and Windows boot times.

One drive that I would recommend that I don't see on your list is the MyDigitalSSD BPX series. Currently have a 240GB model in my Lenovo Y700. MLC, and a Philson E7 controller. Very fast and the price is hard to beat. Also has one of the best endurance ratings out there.

I'd almost say the burden is on you to show that you need more than equivalent to a fast sata SSD, what are you running besides benchmarks that benefits from it?

Theres nothing wrong with buying faster because you want to, I nearly grabbed a 2TB 960 pro at microcenter 'just because' but it would not be an honest recommendation for most here.

I was going to say the same thing. Seems like a decent drive for the money.

Thanks for finding that. I was about to pull the trigger on that but after Shipping and Taxes was $290, which is $40 more than NewEgg (no tax and free shipping)

Wasn't Newegg changing almost $400 for this same drive?

In stock below for only $10 more than retail price. I have this drive and it flys.

Nope... They have the 960 Evo 500 for $249.99 which is the MSRP. Other 3rd Party retailers that sell on Newegg have marked the drive.

I deciding between the MyDigitalSSD BPX 480gb (price point & 5yr warranty) and Corsair MP500 (3yr Warranty and Fast Speeds) however the benchmarks are not as great as some of the leading drives like the Samsung 960 Evo/Pro or even the Corsair MP500.

I wonder how much difference there really is for everyday applications?

The Mydigitalssd and the MP500 both use the same controller so performance will be very similar. At that point due to price and warranty I would go with the BPX like I did.

At the speeds these drives are putting out I doubt you would notice any real world difference.

Thanks for your input. I just pulled the trigger on the MyDigitalSSD 480, as its $50 cheaper than the Corsair, has 2 years more warranty than the Corsair. The only thing they have common in the controller :O

$199 with a 5 year warranty and almost as fast as the Evo sounds like a good choice. I might try one of these is my next build.

I have the Intel 600p 512gb and also the Samsung 950 Pro 512gb.

I honestly have trouble seeing the difference between both of these drives. I paid $340ish for the 950 Pro and only $160 for the Intel 600p

Now, compared to Sata ... these drives blow them away and I can def tell the difference between Sata and NVMe
