We've played with the Sony and really like it, but have yet to see the Fujitsu in any of the stores

I like the sony, because they are light, and portable...

I'm voting other, as I'd prefer an IBM X40. There's just something about metal frames and hinges that appeals to me.

However,between those 2, I'd vote the Fujitsu.

Asus M5N or Fujitsu S6210...my Asus M3N is better than those, but it weighs about 5 pounds.

I don't think IBM or Asus has anything this small....

As for the iBook, I've never used a Mac since the Apple IIc in 2nd grade

IBM's X40 is a 12.1" screen, and weighs less than 3 lbs. 10.6" x 9.3" x 1.1

your Fujitsu: 10.47" x 7.83" x 1.42 and 3.3 lbs.

So, it's 1.5" deeper, negligibly wider, a quarter inch thinner, and weighs .5 lbs less.

I still qualifies as an ultraportable, so it still has my vote.

sony laptops are bad... evil...

fujitsu's aren't much better in my opinion... but i've only used older models...

hp has a nice one out.. dunno if you could consider it ultraportable, but it's pretty small and light

what that guy said. and Fujitsu nor Sony even COMPARE in the same breath with IBM's reputation in laptops. they are simply the best.

According to the IBM website, the X40's dimensions:
Weight - 3.20 lbs
Width - 10.5 in
Depth - 8.3 in
Height - 0.94 in

Where did you find your source? Just curious.

IBM ThinkPad X40

The above dimensions are the correct ones. But some clarification. Thickness ranges from .94 to 1.01 as it is kinda wedge like. Also the depth ranges from 8.3 with 4 cell battery and the 9.3 is with the extended 8 cell battery as well as the weight difference is 2.7lbs with the 4 cell and 3.2lbs with the 8 cell.

I was lazy, used newegg for both dimensions...and I believe mine included an 8 cell, and measurements are actual height, including the rubber feet, rather than just the chassis thickness.

Between those two, I would pick the Fujitsu.

I personally own (and am typing this message on) an IBM T42, and I love it. I would vote for the X40 if you can handle a slightly bigger laptop. Thinkpads are the best laptops money can buy, and I love the Trackpoint!

HP is evil...all their new stuff will only take HP wifi cards (more $$$, no upgrades).

Another vote for IBM. Had Dells, Toshibas, etc. and plenty of them but none has had even close to the number of sheerly useful features this T42 I'm typing on does. Plus, the keyboard and trackpoint are the best bar none IMHO.
