Which Mouse?

i play mostly fps. my hands are average to large size, my fingers are very long. i like to be able to feel the mouse in the palm of my hand. i had a g7 for a while, which is ok, but not a great gaming mouse. i have been using a diamondback 3g for the last few months. its ok, but a little small, and i am getting the feeling that my mouse is holding me back. i am using the razer 2 sided aluminum (speed one side, control the other) mousepad because i wear out the surface of a ratpad in a month or 2. so i would like some advice from somebody that has used these mice. i am looking at the g5, copperhead and deathadder. is the weight system on the g5 really useful of just a gimmick? and out of these 3, which is the best? thanx.

Deathadder is a solid mouse, especially if you prefer low sensitivity. Copperhead is great for higher sensitivity and I haven't had any problems with the ones I've used. The DA is more for the palm than the Copperhead (fingers more than palm) and the DA has a similar shape to the MS Intellimouse 3.0 that was hugely popular a few years back.

I'm actually trying to sell my new Copperhead to switch to a DA and return to lower sens.

Deathadder all the way. As for the weight on the G5, it is actually really nice, I prefer to run the sensitivity high and the weight heavy so that theres more precision but if you want a solid mouse I would agree with mooseontheloose and get the Deathadder.

I have the original Sidewinder and love it...and the newer one (X5) is also quite nice...but works better for people with large hands...otherwise, I'd say the G5 - Logitech mice are very comfortable - G5 included.

i love my deathadder but getting the drivers to work in vista x64 was a pain in the ass.

i think the ones shipping now already have the firmware upgrade so it should be okay. you need the latest firmware for the driver to be fully functional (turn off the glowing logo etc).

Those are all pretty nice mice, I don't think you will have a problem with any of them as it's mostly personal preference.

I have had the G5 for a few years now and it's still going strong - I love it. The weight system is actually pretty nice, especially when used for FPS games. So if you're able, try and borrow any of your friends' if they have them just to get a feel for what you like best, but just letting you know you can't go wrong with a G5.

I have two Microsoft Habu mice and love them. On the fly sensitivity adjustment, and cool looks too ( if you like blue leds)

The Habu uses Razer technology but has a better shape (IMO)

Also, look for the Sidewinder X8. Looks to be a great mouse, though a little costly. :)

Comes down to how you use mice; the Habu is a "fingertip" mouse; the Sidewinders are "palm" mice. Meaning, a Habu you don't rest your hand on, your hand rests on the table surface, and otherwise you use your fingers only on the mouse. Palming, your palm rests on the mouse itself - making full contact.

Each person will have their own preferences...I prefer the Sidewinder for the fact it suits larger hands, and I can palm it well...

MS 3.0/Death Adder. End of story.

The MX518/Ikari Optical are also nice but I personally like the feel of the 3.0/DA shape.

Don't waste your money on laser mice or anything else just get one of the 4 I listed. (No offense to anyone using a G5/G9/Laser mouse whatever)

you have 3 or 4 choices when it comes to gaming mice

1. mx518
2. ie 3.0
3. deathadder
4. ikari OPTICAL (never used one myself)

optical is superior and generally cheaper. why spend more on crappier laser mice? i have used the 1st 3 mice in my list extensively and out of the 3 the 518 is my favourite.

All the Razer mouses feel like cheap pieces of crap to me and have too flat of a shape. I love my G5 and the little weights you can put in it actually do help customize the feel and movement of the mouse, especially if you're into games that depend on precision, like FPS.

weight is nothing, the precision comes from the engine/internals of the mouse. Hence why you should ditch the G5 and buy an optical mouse. trust me.
btw the death adder is shaped for right handers, its not the same shape as a copperhead/diamonback

Hence, you use a Logitech (G5). ;). Btw, a mouse is mouse, it's not a tank, but Razer is quality.

DA still doesn't have that weirdass sideways shape. Anyone remember older Logitech optical mice were ambidextrous. :p

I really liked my Diamondback. Went from that to a DeathAdder because it was had for a good deal. Only thing I dislike is that it's not as easy to lift up/move the DA, I do that while gaming sometimes. So I might go to a Diamondback/Copperhead 3G in the future.

Go w/ what fits your hand and feels right, may take up to a couple weeks to adjust.

Excellent list. All those mice are superb; out of that list I prefer the Deathadder with the Ikari a close second.

When it comes to performance the Ikari Optical, Death Adder and MX518 are pretty much the exact same. They're great for both low and high sensitivities. The only thing you have to decide is which mouse is physically more comfortable for you, you can't go wrong with either. The trade off though is that All 3 of those mice have prediction, if you don't know what that is than don't even worry about it.

My personal favorite mouse, and the mouse that I've used mainly for the past few years is the intellimouse 3.0. I have owned both the original and the re-release and they're both great mice. It does have negative accel but it's all predictionless and to me that's a fair trade off. That mouse to me, is like a car you really have to learn to use the mouse and it will love you back. It's kind got a "personality" to it.

The Intellimouse 1.1 is also a great mouse but it's the same thing as the 3.0 w/ a different shape.

If you have really good aim, which a lot people may think they do but they don't, a predictionless mouse like the 3.0 is the gamers best friend. I've played competitve CS for years and competed at LAN tournaments as well as the upper echelon's of CAL/CEVO and I can tell you that I can definitely tell a difference in the small "enhancements" that prediction gives a person. I can use it, but I prefer to have it off.

Yes i would beware of the G5 if you have large hands. I have big hands and it cramped the shit out of them. Just to warn you

ok, went with the majority and got the death adder. i am liking it more than the diamondback 3g, which was too small. i also like the more positive response i get from the mouse 1 and mouse 3 buttons. but i seem to press the mouse 2 button by mistake a lot, meaninf its either a little too sensitive, or i have to get used to the wider mouse.

i havent read the doc yet.

a) what is the little switch next to the sensor for?

b) how do i adjust sensitivity on the fly? this mouse doesnt have the mouse 6 and 7 buttons that were used on the db3g.

That will happen with the DA at first, or at least I know it did for me. I always used to get unwanted button pressess until I warmed up to the mouse. I believe the switch by the sensor is to reset the mouse's setting but I'm not sure. To get "on the fly" sensitivity you have to go into the drivers and bind a key, preferably something like mouse 4/5, to do so and than I believe you can just hold it down and use the mousewheel to select just like the diamond back.

I looked over the forums and found many going for the G5, since I have about medium sized hands (i'm like 5'10") and the feel is great and leave the DPI always in the middle, I did add some weight to it so I wasn't always flying off the ratpadz XT. In the end i'm glad I talked my GF into buying one for me for x-mas. I would also warn anyone with large hands away from the G5 though.

I'm also not a super heavy gamer but I did stay at a holiday inn though.

if you have large hands try a M$ sidewinder.. that thing is large and in charge.. I liked it actually quite a bit until I needed to use the wheel, which I felt I had to strain to use because it was kind of far up there and it's aluminum, so you need to have a good pressing angle to get grip on it..
